Brain Fog & Menopause: What Was I Saying Again?
I'm pretty bad with words. I always feel like I can't find the right ones, put it wrong and can't put my thoughts into words. If I write a story or an essay I forget midway what I wanted to focus on and end up writing something else. When I talk to people I feel like I cheat my way through conversations cause its like i don't know what I am talking about. And if someone notices smth and points it out and it's something I didn't mean that way I can't defend or explain myself. Is this add related?
The forgetting part probably is. Some people just aren't good with words, though, and that's not dependent on ADHD.
You could probably practice by writing more (and following an outline when you do). I'm not sure about conversations, though.

I've heard that people who are tongue tied may have ADHD? I doubt it but I'm just curious as I'm tongue tied and think I have ADHD.
Do you mean tongue tied as in the medical condition where your tongue doesn't move around easily because the membrane that connects it to the floor of your mouth is really short and thick, or tongue tied as in the expressive speech difficulty where you can't find a word when you want it?
If the former, I can't find any link between the physical type and ADHD. If the latter, it is very common for ADHDers to have word-finding problems.

i forget what words are a lot so i make up a lot of new words to replace them. my favorite and most recent (that i can recall) was when i forgot the word "ankle" and i said something like "foot elbow" or "foot knee"
I have trouble with word-finding sometimes, too. It can be so frustrating! I usually end up talking around whatever it is, until either someone else gives me the word or I remember what it is. Your phrases sound like something I might come up with at some point during such an episode!

I have the exact same problems with words. Mostly while talking though, and it's mostly simple words. Its funny to be because I often use large words, then pause and ask if I used it correctly because I can't remember what the word means, but it always turns out I used it correctly. So maybe I subconsciously remember what the big words mean lol I think that's probably for the same reason that I can't find words.. working memory and whatnot. I think you're hypothesis is definitely correct ;P
Thanks for your input!
Do people with ADHD tend to have problems with words. I find I will be mid-sentence and I will just forget the word I was going to use, this happens when speaking and writing and it happens so often it is really annoying. But I have no other problems with words. Hmmm?
That happens to me a lot. I have a large vocabulary thanks to all the reading I've done, but sometimes I can't find the word I need. (The most annoying part is when the word I can't find is one that's really simple.) I think it's probably fairly common with ADHDers, and I suspect it's related to our working memory. We're holding information in our minds as we're writing or talking, but some of it falls away because our working memory isn't very good. I find that usually know what the concept is but the actual word I need just isn't there. Then I turn to a friend, or my husband, and ask them what the word is that I'm looking for. Most of the time they're understanding and happy to help.
What about the rest of you? Do you have word-finding problems? How correct is my hypothesis? ;)
