Or maybe, to make the happy reunion more plausible, Woodkit and Saltkit were abandoned at one moon old instead of at birth
Maybe instead of simply being born without a leg, Woodkit had amniotic band syndrome (where the umbilical cord wraps around a limb in utero, requiring amputation once the baby is born) and the leg that was wrapped fell off around one moon old
Meanwhile Morningsky just assumed that Saltkit was a late bloomer - it was only around when he was one moon old when she finally realized that his eyes would never open... because he didn't have any eyes to open in the first place
also Goldenkit witnessed every second of their abandonment and all three siblings were crying out for each other :))))))))))))
I imagine Morningsky was so up her ass about how good her kits are that she blinded herself to their issues, thus wasn't aware of any problem Woodkit had until his leg fell off and she was like "WHAT THE FUCK"
