AUgh so many of you are so supportive! But thank you, it really is nice to hear that you enjoy seeing my little dudes!! (Here are some initial sketches I did when I was trying to figure out Vaara!)

Jowan was pretty much pippas only friend in the circle lol!! She was more focused on her studies than anything else...was also kinda annoyingly haughty.. Like they loved each other like siblings but think they wer also the only ones who could rly put up with each other jkjrfbhjhrvf

what perk would they give the player?

what's cookin good lookin? - moz gives a bonus to survival skill + everything you craft at a campfire or hot plate adds 50% more hp!

how do you recruit them? are there multiple methods?

you find moz at primm, hiding in the vikki and vance casino with the rest of the primm residents. she’s courier two, back from the strip to complete her delivery, and she was traveling with daniel wyand, who is now dead in front of the mojave express building. he was moz’s friend :( moz wants to give him a proper funeral but she can’t do that with the escaped convicts running around the place. she’ll help you take on bison steve hotel if you want. she becomes a temporary companion if you agree. once you two take on the escaped convicts and all of them are gone, she’ll stop being a companion, but you meet her again at the thorn! she’s in the audience but she’ll come talk to you after you talk to red lucy. you can recruit her from there!

what raises and lowers their affinity?

raises affinity: using campfires, discovering locations, giving her sunset sarsaparilla, taking her to festus will raise the affinity crazy high, doing particular things during some quests idk what those are yet though

lowers affinity: high legion fame, high ncr fame, being unnecessarily mean and violent, threatening regular people, disparaging comments about tribals, murder, cannibalism

how do they react to certain things? what do they say? (eg. lockpicking, grabbing junk, killing?)

moz reacts positively to lockpicking and grabbing junk; killing non-violents is a big no-no though

do they periodically give the player items? what kind of items?

hmm she always has sunset sarsparilla with her but she’ll give the courier her star bottlecaps :)

would they be able to do specialised task? (eg. repairs, hacking)

moz can craft food recipes for you!

would they be romancable?

hell yeah!!! she can be romancable by male, female, and nonbinary couriers

do they have a unique outfit or weapon?

her green jacket made from cactus leather with its many many pockets can only be replaced by a high dt armor (except power armor) or be looted from her corpse. as for unique weapons, she’ll have special spiked knuckles

what would be their personal quest, if they have one?

i’ve been thinking about this a lot and i think her personal quest will have to do with her tribe, the painted heads. whether or not she should go home and help with the family restaurant, drive away the ncr who’s slowly but surely making themselves known, or continue with her traveling, something like that? what do you think, courier?

what are their opinions on certain factions? (eg. brotherhood, NCR)

she dislikes the legion for obvious reasons; ncr, because they’re slowly encroaching on the small town where her tribe settled; the brotherhood of steel and house because they’re both Weird about technology and she just doesn’t trust them. meanwhile, she likes the great khans, the followers of the apocalypse, the kings, the boomers (somewhat), the folks at the tops, among others! she just thinks they’re all swell.

[sighs] your funeral, babe. use melee: oh, now we’re talking! open inventory: sure, i think i still have space here... / i swear, if you’re gonna make me bring more trash.... stay close: y’know, my lola always told me if i stood too close to someone else, we’d switch faces. [pause] with you? i’d take it keep distance: holler if you need me! back up: aw, sick of me already? be passive: ok! i’ll try not to provoke anything :3c be aggressive: locked and loaded, baby use stimpak: ay salamat, i was about to handle it my damn self wait here: sure, i’ll be sitting pretty ‘til you come back / good thing i brought a book follow me: that’s the plan :) / where to, amigo? talk to: what’s up? / ooohh what’s the news?

miscellaneous facts?

B) What inspired you to create them? Mostly, he was created as a consequence of giving Adal additional reasons to despise the Legion (not that she needed more, but it’s a rare knife I leave untwisted). He grew more or less organically from a handful of starting points: 1) I didn’t want Adal to have daughters captured by the Legion; therefore both her kids were boys. 2) Younger Adal was a difficult person who made some poor choices; her alienating her then-husband was a part of her story from the start, and it follows that their son was caught up in it. 3) Her older son was to be killed As Backstory, leaving the younger one alive, who might adapt to the Legion more easily and add additional conflict if I ever had them seek one another out. 4) All of which lays the groundwork for, later on, her to come across a deeply distrustful young man with a skill for pushing peoples’ buttons and a lot of bad memories about his mother.

A handful of traits he started out with have endured: I did want him to be a little bit of an oddball in the Legion, with a knack for crafting and making that he would swear up and down he doesn’t keep doing as a memory of his tribe. He was always a Frumentarius, both to lean into his skills at manipulating people and give him more free rein when it came to finding out about and encountering Adal. He was always intended to be high-strung and touchy, a consequence of his trauma and something he’d need to resolve or at least recognize in order to grow as a character.

A lot of this characterization has evolved as I’ve written him, however. When I started Bury the Dream (the first time) he was more openly antagonistic towards Adal, actually working for the remnants of the Legion and fully believing in their ideals, and his arc ended more ambiguously about his feelings about his mother. The second and third revisions saw him softening as a person--partly due to me souring on the idea of him never even hinting towards reconciling with Adal, which felt like a step too far after everything she’d have endured to find him again. Plus in order to give him a ‘redemption’ arc I needed to start him from a place of “I understand the Legion is abhorrent and would leave it if given the choice, but know the consequences of trying,” rather than having drunk the whole pitcher of Kool-Aid, and been a villain with his worst deeds left offscreen, and we were supposed to excuse them because his mom loved him. G) What trait of theirs bothers you the most?

What is the most romantic thing someone has done for them?

Traversed the Deep Roads alone just to see her.

Teja had a partner that was a member of the Carta, Farilija Cadash. The two met when Farilija got lost in the deep roads while doing some smuggling for the Carta. Teja found her and helped her find her way to the surface. A month or so later Farilija went back to the deep roads just to find Teja again. And thus began the secret relationship of a Carta smuggler and a Sergeant of the Legion of the Dead.

What do they want most in life?

“Life” is a strong word, lmao, but honestly? What they want is to honor their family and make the best of their death. She doesn’t have like, big aspirations, they want to be a good member of the Legion of the Dead. Their biggest aspiration was already completed, when they restored their family’s honor with their death.
