more hybrid au:
deer!hybrid shane hollander is the head physiotherapist for the ottawa centaurs. he had a dream of being a player in the nhl, but prey ‘don’t belong in professional sports’ (and his giant antlers)
so he watches from behind the glass. doesnt try out for a prey-league (antlers…) because those aren’t taken anywhere as seriously as the nhl.
instead, he’s timid, quiet, and more often than not, hidden away in his office until there’s a reason for him to he interacting with the team. everyone is kind to him if not a little intimidated by the extra height that his species provides him with (i’m entirely exaggerating. it’s like 5 in of height)
when the wolf-hybrid, ilya rozanov, signs with the centaurs, shane is dreading having an in-person meeting with him because, in his experience, predators that are arrogant like him tend to be dismissive of him.
they meet. ilya finds himself transfixed on the way shane’s deer-ears twitch when things get a little too loud (which is ironic since he works for a hockey team), and how the white spots that blend with the dark fur are a perfect match to the freckles that cover the bridge of his nose
he also did quite enjoy when the cute little deer flushed when he asked him to remove his shirt for a brief examination
shane is pleasantly surprised to find that ilya was quiet and respectful, didn’t object or try to correct him—the one with the phd—when he was trying to do his job. his canines were prominent when he spoke; glinted in the light when he smirked at shane. mostly, shane was glad that his antlers were not a point of interest.
ilya is enraptured by those literal doe eyes. he showboats for shane although he doesn’t always watch the games or practices, maybe plays up when his joints feel stiff. just so he can see the pretty deer that’s required to touch his bare skin in order for him to play hockey
the team does absolutely comment when ilya returns from shane’s office with a wagging tail and his ears standing up tall
