Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) admitted on Sunday that some of the radical positions people took during the COVID-19 pandemic were a product of the extreme times, and defended people’s right to change their stances. During a stop by ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday, anchor Jonathan Karl asked her about Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong (D), who recently distanced herself from her 2020-2021 social media posts where she called to abolish the police amid the surge in social consciousness that spread in the wake of the murder of George Floyd, and cancel Thanksgiving. Ocasio-Cortez noted that opinions can evolve and quoted New York City councilmember Chi Ossé when she quipped that: “Woke 1.0 was crazy.”

Does this portend a possible 2028 run for either the US Senate or the Presidency for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez? On ABC’s This Week yesterday, Ocasio-Cortez admitted that certain aspects of Woke 1.0 “was crazy.”

Capitalism has facilitated the mass trade and exports of food and medicine to places that otherwise would have had a hard time producing it. The high quality of life and massive world population would not have happened with socialism and feudalism so they have guys like Hasanabi on there propagating anti-life China idealism to advertise an alternate system to you that would have kept a low quality of life and low population. Because they hate you and don't like the hot weather they facilitated to produce stuff for the population either. Allegedly.

That TYT, leftist oligarch stooge. China had a 1 child policy until just 10 years ago. Then it ended when they needed to replace their minorities and fill in the buildings they built. (The 10 year China plan.) Now in an opposite way America is shutting down it's overseas humanitarian reach like USAID and shutting down it's borders at any cost. They anticipate a massive culling and won't facilitate aid anymore besides the bare minimum (Project 2025), allegedly. And Trump is their favorite guy to do it right now because he's pragmatic, good with numbers and charismatic enough to make you love it. Allegedly.

I think the reason that the first wave of woke in the 2010s produced such a backlash and, ultimately, failed, was that it didn't really have any goals. So often you would see posts that start with "we need to talk about-" or "we need to reconcile with the fact that-" or "why is no one talking about-" but never WHY we need to do those things. What the ultimate goal is, how it would ultimately be useful to do so. This is compounded by the fact that such discussions ARE often a bedrock of media discourse, but since this site has always been dominated by the young, they think they're the first people to ever, for example, look at the twist in Psycho and go "hey that's a bit problematic"

As long as queer discourse around the horror genre has existed, there have been discussions about the twist in Psycho. But if you're an introverted teenager living in Bumfuck, Arkansas, you don't really know that lol

And again, there's never a stated goal with these modern takes on these old discussions. Never what reconciling the transphobia in Psycho would look like in a material sense. That's where the backlash in the mid to late 2010s came from - folks saw the whole thing as guilt tripping for its own sake. The political goal being the act of disapproval in itself. Not saying it's right, of course, or that what came of that backlash was anything good, simply that it is the consequence.

I was there, on this site in 2012. I saw the whole thing. We didn't have a plan. But in our defense, we didn't even know we were at war.
