This has been a hard lesson for me to learn, and one I still struggle with from time to time. We can't always control what's going on. I think our current global situation confirms that. Trying to control what we can't can be at best manipulative, at worst anxiety inducing. Control has been the basis of my own anxiety through my adulthood. We can only control ourselves. How we respond. How we react and process what we are given. We can't control others. I think there have indeed, and will continue to be, silver linings in all this. I had a job I loved and was well compensated for... And was laid off. I had a part time job I love with folks there that'll be life long tribe I suspect, and we're furloughed. I had been making excuses about my diet and health, sabotaging my progress towards where I want to be. I could go on and on about "before". But I'll tell you what, you don't need a vacation for self care. What this has done is given me some considerable perspective on my worth, my lack of investment in myself, and how important self care really is. I've been reminded through this how important it really is to put the gasmask, as it were, on first. I'll get reemployed and it'll be a better opportunity and fit for me. My part time job will re-open and I'll be able to see those I've missed. I've lostbsome weighr, have been hearing far better and I've been focusing on my YouTube channel, crafts, and improving some skills I've long put off because I just didn't have time. Because we could all use a little light-heartedness, especially now. The world seems to be Topsy-Turvy, turned upside-down. Whether you believe we are re-opening too soon or not (be respectful of one another please), everyone seems to be at wits end and scared, for one reason or another. I feel you. Change is scary. The unknown is scary. True change, true, lasting, formative change only comes through discomfort, chaos, and catastrophic events. It's why trauma is so real and evergreen. But the converse of that is true, as well.
