My old pastor would often ask, during difficult times, "What is God trying to teach you in this moment?"
And he wasn't cruel or anything; he wouldn't do it all the time, wouldn't do it in the middle of someone's spiral or in the wake of a huge tragedy. But for those of us he knew well, when he knew we needed to hear it, he would ask.
What is God trying to teach you in this moment?
Even though I don't attend that Church anymore, I still think of that man as my pastor, and in moments like this, I can still hear him asking me that.
So, a few things God is teaching me in this moment:
Proverbs 3:5. It was a verse that I'd been thinking about a lot right before I had my wisdom teeth out, and around 2 days before then, I bought a sweatshirt with that verse on it. I've basically been living in that sweatshirt since then, and it's been a really good reminder: Trust in the Lord with all your heart....
Not everything can be rushed. Sometimes moving forward means taking painfully small steps, because if you try to rush you'll just collapse, but with small steps, at least you're moving forward.
My family loves me a lot. Seriously, the amount of love they've shown me over the past few days has been incredible.
I'm sure there are more to come, but these are the ones coming to mind.
