"It's your fault my husband is dead, Blade. I loved him with all of my heart, but it seems your people don't seem to care about that."
Montgomery "Monty" Malkovitz is a Russian Mercedes Benz GLE 350. He was happily married to his husband for 10 years. His husband was a Smokejumper captain for the Piston Peak Air Attack firefighting team, but he didn't live with the rest of the crew as he wanted to live with Monty in their home. He only went to the base when he was needed for calls, training and the like, but the two never strayed far from each other.
However, there was a particularly awful fire that killed Monty's husband, declaring him MIA. Blade and Windlifter delivered the news to a distraught Monty after the fire was put out and his husband's body was recovered. Maru couldn't save him due to Monty's husband succumbing to his injuries on site (Maru blames himself for not saving him).
Monty thinks that since Blade was the one who was commanding the team during the fire that day, he should've told his crew not to fight it when it became too hard to control. He blames Blade for the death of his husband because of this. What Monty doesn't know was that his husband died protecting his crew when the flames drew too close for comfort, and is the reason the Smokejumper crew made it out alive.
Monty and Blade share a lot of things in common in this regard, but he refuses to acknowledge this, and decidedly takes his anger out on the PPAA for allowing his husband to die and not being able to save him.
He's now a medic for a firefighting crew that is close to the PPAA's base and closer to his home. He refuses to be close to anyone (except for Francis, a 2015 Ford Edge who just so happens to be a Smokejumper captain there) and keeps to himself, only listening to the chief's orders.

My headcanons on what the PPAA team read!
Dusty: I'm sure he likes Percy Jackson and Harry Potter's series. He likes adventures, so it fits perfectly. He also reads about races, whether it's on magazines or books.
Blade: he "enjoys" psychological books, like Dostoyevski and Kafka. He can see himself in some of the characters of the books he reads, and it is, somehow, comfortably. His mind is like a storm, and since he doesn't talk much (unless it's with Maru), he feels alone. Relating to a character makes he feel a bit accompanied.
Lil' Dipper: her bookshelf is full of famous Booktok books. ACOTAR, "The Assistant" and even Colleen Hoover, among others. She mainly reads feminine authors.
Windlifter: he reads philosophical books, like Camus, and classics, like the Iliad or the Odyssey. He also has some books about his culture and nature, he's always open to learn something new.
Maru: he's not much into books, he prefers magazines or the newspaper, the first one being about mechanics.
Cabbie: Ernest Hemingway is his favorite author. He's into modern classics and action books like "Jurassic Park".
Smokejumpers: they rarely read, Dynamite being the exception. She reads about forests, fires... anything to her job, to amplify her knowledge and make her skills better. She teaches the rest of the smokejumpers what she thinks it's really useful. But no one reads actual stories. They usually go to Cabbie for that, he always accepts to read out loud for them.
Patch: she loves poetry. She spends most of her time at the tower, contacting with the firefighters when they're flying over fire and heavy smoke. It can be stressing. Poetry helps her to relax, it feels like a breeze. When she comes back to work, is like she had taken a nap.
fun fact: afaik there are canonically two native american characters in the world of cars, and they're both planes!!
the first is windlifter, who i'm sure we're all familiar with. he's voiced by wes studi who is cherokee, which means that windlifter is likely cherokee as well
the second is yellow bird, who was one of the racers in the wings around the globe rally. his bio states that he would participate in the cheyenne nation air rodeo, which means he is likely cheyenne
