Completed in 1925, the Wills Memorial Building took 10 years to construct. It was commissioned by brothers W. D. & H. O. Wills in honour of their father, Henry Overton Wills III (1828-1911), who was Bristol University's first chancellor, and a considerably wealthy gent. Architect Sir George Oatley (1863-1950) was knighted (1925) for his design, and the building is cited as one the last great gothic structures to be built.
