The Ballroom at Belvoir. This weekend, whilst her doors were shuttered, I was kindly invited to a private tour of @belvoircastle in preparation for her reopening to visitors on March 12th. It felt quite surreal to visit this historic Castle after seeing its resplendent interiors on The Crown and The Young Victoria, and I can’t wait to share more photographs from my visit. On a separate point, it was refreshing to note the warmth and diversity of the team at Belvoir. Belvoir want to share the history and beauty of The Castle with everyone, and want every visitor to feel welcome. 6.14.23 Lunchtime drawing: Sketched from under scaffolding during today's rain storm, non other than Grace Church on Broadway a block or two down from The Strand designed by James Renwick Jr. in a very fancy Gothic Revival fashion.

104 Edmund Place was built in 1885 for Lucien S. Moore, a lumber baron. The home is a mix of French Second Empire and Venetian Gothic, also referred to as High Victorian Gothic or Ruskinian Gothic (based on the writings of John Ruskin, author, philosopher, critic, etc.) Originally, the home was topped with a "witch hat" tower, which added to its Gothic appearance. The latter half of the 20th century saw the once-desirable Brush Park neighborhood deteriorate into an urban wasteland. The formerly grand homes became targets of vandels and arsonists, with many being demolished as a result. The Moore home even lost its roof at one point. The new millennium saw a renewed effort to preserve what's left of Brush Park. In 2006, the home was restored, with the interior being completely rebuilt. In 2005, The project was captured on an episode of HGTV's Restore America, in partnership with the National Trust For Historic Preservation. Disney Goes Rococo Pink castles, talking sofas and objects coming to life: what sounds like fantasies from the pioneering animation of ‘Walt Disney Animation Studios’ were in fact the figments of the colourful salons of Rococo Paris. This exhibition explores the work of Walt Disney and the hand-drawn animation of ‘Walt Disney Animation Studios’ examining Disney’s personal fascination with European art and the use of French motifs in his films and theme parks, drawing new parallels between the studios’ magical creations and their artistic models. Sixty works of 18th-century European decorative arts and design - from tapestries and furniture to ‘Boulle’ clocks and ‘Sèvres’ porcelain - will be featured alongside 150 production artworks and works on paper from the ‘Walt Disney Animation Research Library', ‘Walt Disney Archives’, ‘Walt Disney Imagineering Collection’ and ‘The Walt Disney Family Museum’. Selected film footage illustrating the extraordinary technological and artistic developments of the studio during Disney’s lifetime and beyond will also be shown. The exhibition will highlight references to European visual culture in Disney animated films, including nods to ‘Gothic Revival' architecture in ‘Cinderella’ (1950), medieval influences on ‘Sleeping Beauty’ (1959) and Rococo-inspired objects brought to life in ‘Beauty and the Beast ‘(1991).
