Will Reeves (Hooded Justice) from HBO's Watchmen-Bisexual

I promised an essay about this topic in my former account and now I finnally have the time to elaborate... For those who might be interested, here are the similarities between Watchmen and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier:

First of all I’m not claiming they’re equal and some of the similarities are just superficial. This is actually a parllel that makes sense in my head so probably I could be overanalyzing things. Lastly, there will be spoilers ahead

Dr Manhattan’s powers | Captain America’s shield and the super serum

Both shows discuss about what a person would do if they had these kind of powers, but most important they show different points of view on what the powers should be used for. Some of the characters wanted it to maintain the status quo, others believed that this kind of thing shouldn’t exist at all, others would use them to change the world. These powers carry a legacy and they’re passed to others. The original holders believed that the new owners could make a difference (just to be clear, in the last example I’m obviously talking about just the shield).

Angela Abar | Sam Wilson

We watch their journeys to become new super heroes. While Sam got the shield very early and struggled with accepting his complicated legacy, Angela got herself in a similar situation, but only in the end of the show. She had already decided how to deal with not only Dr. Manhattan’s powers but with the guy himself and his complicated past. Both of them will honor those who came before them and they’re committed to deal with the responsibilities of those powers. Both of them are smart, very skilled individuals and are really connected to their towns. Angela and Sam are the worthiest people to inherit the positions of Dr. Manhattan and Captain America respectively.

Will Reeves | Isaiah Bradley

Their legacies were erased of the history by America. They suffered a lot of difficulties living in a segregated country and were never recognized for their services. It gave them reasons not to believe in vigilantism but also to be skeptical about Dr. Manhattan | Captain America. They’re the eldest heroes of the respective shows and gave advices to Angela | Sam, even though they’re harsh with them in the beginig. I wish Isaiah had his life more explored like Will had and I would love to have seen Will’s work being recognized the way Isaiah’s was.

Ozymandias | Zemo

Rich and exentric super villain likes purple and is rotting in jail for a megalomaniac plan that he claims was for the sake of humanity. Am I talking about Ozymandias or Zemo?? I really don’t know, it could be either of them. Although the good guys hate them, the heroes must use these villians’ expertise on the topic to save the day. Also Zemo and Ozymandias are introduced with Lacrimosa playing in the background at least once.

Wade Tillman | Bucky Barnes

Wade and Bucky were haunted by a previous trauma and they’re trying to overcome it during the series. They end up helping their friends stop a huge conspiracy, and to do that they must face their malefactors. In the end the opt to make justice instead of getting revenge.

There are other parallels that are not as strong as the previous ones:

Laurie Blake | Sharon Carter

I know that at first this might sound crazy, but an agent that doesn’t believe in heroes anymore and comes from a family related to them and also was left by her superpowerful boyfriend does ring something, right?? Well that’s it.

Lady Trieu | Karli  Morgenthau

Lady Trieu has way more villain vibes than Karli, but they both started antagonizing with protagonists even though both sides have some common goals. They verbalize they have good intentions but they do questionable acts, including allying with the enemy to achieve their purposes. They died before the audience could know what they would do to make a better future... Random fact: both of them had individual plots that could have helped explaining their motives better erased due production problems.

Dr. Manhattan | Steve Rogers

They are absent characters but they’re constantly mentioned and impacted a lot of characters’ lives. They have become symbols and are idealized and hated at the same time. They disappeared misteriously, and it’s believed by many that they’ve moved to space. But actually they’re secretly living among common people raising families.
