An Encounter in the Sunshine
Wicca frowned at the herbs and plants growing before him, just twelve steps away. Twelve steps too far, in his opinion. But all steps in that particular direction were steps too far.
He didn’t like going in this direction for long periods of time. He set his cottage up far enough into the wilderness that he thought he wouldn’t have troubles with the local villages. But the thing with humans was they tended to spread. Forget-Me-Not Valley, then Mineral Town spread out of what used to just be Flowerbud Village. His territory was wide, however, and sometimes overlapped with others of his kind.
Today he was on one of the islands off the coast. A newer town was situated there, where once the whole island was inhabited with nothing but nature and solitude. The more he stepped in this direction, the closer he got to the town and its inhabitants. Normally it wouldn’t be much of an issue apart from the occasional run-in with Mineral Town or Forget-Me-Not villagers. Those were quickly dealt with through distance and the thick foliage. Not this place. No, it was too small. If someone really wanted, they could search him out.
He had exhausted all of his surrounding area, at least to the extent that he felt comfortable. It was best to not only let his natural stores recover, but grow exponentially. Plus, there were some mushrooms and other things found on the island he’d like to get his hands on. Still, his search was getting close to the edge of where the villagers would tread, even if they tended to congregate and stay within or near the village limits.
