How to Put On A Wig (Another Useful Way)
~~~~~Step 1: Put the wig on! Start it by putting it on way on your forehead, past your hairline. Pinch it in the front hairline, and pull it down in the back.
This is what it should look like…
It should be a little in front of your natural hairline, so as to hide it, but if a little pokes out (especially if you don’t have a lace-fronted wig like this one), I’d take it off and try again. By pulling the wig backwards, that should pull most of the loose hairs back under the wig.
~~~~~Step 2: Onto pinning the wig on! You need to use large wig pins, the 5” ones *you can get them at Sally’s Beauty Supply. You take two of them, and cross them at the center back of the wig, like an “X”
~~~~~Step 3: More pining. This time, you are using the shorter 3” pins. Now you want to secure the front of the wig. Really, you at least need to pin the center front of the wig with regular wig pins. After this, you just need to put as many pins in to hold it in place.
As a note, be sure that you pin into the wigcap. That is what holds everything in place and keeps everything from shifting after a few hours of wearing (and makes it comfortable, too)
~~~~~Finish Pining: And, for example, here is where we have pinned Yvonne to keep the wig on. Usually, it is good idea to have at least three in the very front, and two over the ears. If you need to, you can add more behind the ears at the base of the wig, and these can be either size of wig pin, just enough to hold it in place. Use as few or as many as you need, just remember, if you are doing stunts on stage, you will want to put more pins in than usual, and test it out before going out (do some cartwheels or whatever you need to do on stage). Yes, if you pin the wig right, it will stay on while doing stunts like this!
~~~~~So, that’s it. Now you should at least have the gist of how to put your hair into pincurls, put on the wigcap, and put on a wig. Just remember, like anything, this takes some practice. My best recommendation is to steal a friend and try it on someone else before doing it all to yourself – being able to see what you are doing really makes a huge difference when you are trying to do it on your own head. Have fun!
The Wet-Hair Method of Putting On A Wig
What You Need:
~Comb/brush
~Bobby pins
~Wig cap (Optional)
~Your wig (NOT optional)
Why Try This Method?
Just because you have long hair doesn’t mean a wig should look bad on you. People constantly ask if my wigs are my real hair, so this is how I fake it. ^^
This is my normal, dry hair (Shown in the below picture)
If you’re hair is around this length or shorter, this method should work for you.
Step 1: SOAK YOUR HAIR (The wetter the better)
In my case, I just took a shower. Just sticking your head in a sink or the shower works too. Brush it out to make it “thin” as possible.
Step 2: TAKE A LOCK OF YOUR HAIR AND LOOSELY TWIST IT.
I always start from one side forst but it doesn’t really matter.
The thinner the lock of hair, the more locks you will have to use, but your hair will end up flatter and easier to pin. (Start with as many locks as you want. You won’t need so many after some practice.)
Step 3: TWIST IT AGAIN YOUR HEAD AND PIN WITH BOBBY PINS.
This is the tricky part. You can twist in a circle or simply lay it zig-zig across your scalp. Remember, you want your hair to look FLAT. If it is too bumpy, don’t twist so tightly or use a thinner lock of hair. Use as many bobby pins as needed!
This is how the first twist looks. You do NOT have to do it exactly like this! Sorry, my hair is black so it’s hard to see. I hope the arrows help.
Step 4: REPEAT UNTIL ALL OF YOUR HAIR IS PINNED!
I like taking the locks of hair from the back of my head and pining them straight up across the top of my head. It helps if you try to fit the locks around each other rather than on top of each other. Always, always try to get your hair to be as flat as possible.
This is how my hair looks when I am done. Obviously, your will look different. Don’t worry, it is supposed to look messy. Just make sure the locks stay place if you shake your head.
Step 5: CAREFULLY PUT ON YOUR WIG CAP
Caps are not necessary but they are really helpful when you have long hair. It is usually easier to stretch it from the back of your hair upwards so you don’t mess up your pinned locks. This part may be a little frustrating but you can always get a friend to help. Remember to tuck in stray hairs.
Step 6: ORIENTATE YOUR WIG
Make sure the tag is in the back. Sounds like a given but if you don’t have your wig on straight, it won’t look OR feel right.
Step 7: PUT ON YOUR WIG
Use the same technique that we used for the wig cap. Hold the back of the wig against the base of your hair and pull upward with the other hand. This is tricky but you will get it after some practice.
Step 8: ADJUST THE HECK OUT OF YOUR WIG
Pull the wig around until it feels comfortable (you will know when it does) and looks even. Smooth it out with your fingers and tuck any stray (real) hair or any visible parts of your wig cap into the wig.
AND YOU ARE DONE :)
This whole process usually only take me a few minutes, even with longer wigs. (This tutorial took about 1000X as long X()
See? XD it is possible to wear wigs with long hair.
