An actual conversation I had with my brother today:
Brother: listen LISTEN putting politics and messaging and whatever- no shut up I’m trying to talk- it takes away from the story! The story is the most important part! Not political alleg- whatever u said
Me *repeating myself again*: allowing creators to actually fully execute an idea within their story is what makes it good, obviously this also requires good writing but most things are inherently political and a lot of movies come across as bad because the political ideologies at play within the writing can’t be executed in full- what if someone sees something in fiction and goes oh that’s not that bad and begins sympathizing etc irl? Besides allowing the fullness of a story including both the in universe political aspects which often have irl implications makes the audience think-
Brother: no shut the fuck up stop talking to me about this I don’t care about real life I want to escape it in fiction I don’t want to see real politics in my movies!!!
Me (I know the answer): what’s your favorite show right now?
Brother: Andor
Me: uh-huh and like would u like to rethink the last 20 minutes of you telling me I don’t know what I’m talking about- oh no you don’t see how this is relevant ok. Have you considered you are stupid actually?
