I'm finally getting back into fic writing and what better way to start it off by writing a whole new mini fic about werewolf viktor and vampire jayce? Anyways, I wrote this one all in one day running on pure brainrot so hopefully it turned out okay
I see and adore Vampire!Viktor and Werewolf!Jayce AU's but I would also like to raise you;
Vampire!Jayce who has to drink so much blood per feeding due to his size, and all that extra blood pulsing through his system makes him burn like a fucking FURNACE-
Werewolf!Viktor whose instincts + enhanced senses (as dulled as they are from overexposure to The Gray) help him with navigating through the more dangerous aspects of his work/research and contributing to his obsessive focus + drive to push himself to the breaking point for concrete results-
Vampire!Jayce who carries the rosary his mother gave him when he was young in a specialised locket that Viktor made for him, one that would contain/negate the heat generated from contact with his skin, to save him from having another unhealable burn mark seared into his flesh-
Werewolf!Viktor who eats so much red meat (even by werewolf standards) just to get any kind of nutritional value, to keep from going anemic too often, who crunches on bones and sucks out the marrow until there's absolutely nothing left. Who usually tries to order his meat cooked just enough that people aren't too put off if he's eating with others but has still rare enough to earn him a few odd looks-
Vampire!Jayce who had a hard time not making an absolute mess of himself anytime he fed as a newly turned vampire, always biting too deep and too wide to fit his whole mouth around the open wound. Who is always left petulant at the fact that when he finally managed to get the hang of how to feed, the gap between his front teeth still made it impossible for him to keep entirely clean-
Werewolf!Viktor, who already had a hard time keeping still in the lab, getting even more antsy the closer it gets to the full moon. Who often has to buy topical painkillers for his mouth, because of the ache he constantly feels from his teeth getting pushed out of his gums to make room for his fangs and vice versa, whose teeth are always left a little crooked each time this occurs. Who gets bogged down with the confusing combination of wanting people close but also holding them at arms length as a result of wanting physical contact/affection + wary of anyone getting too close when he's vulnerable-
Vampire!Jayce who always presses closely to others subconsciously to feel the blood rushing beneath their skin, whose mouth always waters whenever it gets hot outside because the heat draws blood closer to the surface of the skin, who constantly taps his pen to the beat of Viktor's heart when they're working in the lab together-
Werewolf!Viktor whose eyes reflect light back in darkness, who can see in the dark as if it were daytime and often works in the dark + constantly giving Sky a heart attack when he just suddenly appears out of nowhere. Who was very skilled at moving quietly when he was healthier, and unintentionally has a habit of stalking/trailing people he's interested in and waiting until he has a prime opportunity to corral/corner them-

Werewolf!Viktor just makes sense. While yes, vampire transformation is sudden and jarring and world altering, the change happens all at once. Once it's done, it's done. You are this thing, and there is no changing it. Permanent and set in stone.
While werewolf transformation comes with different challenges. You lose memories. You're still human, but you're not. The humanity is there, but so is the beast. The fear of every full moon ruling your life. Wanting to remain as you once were, physically being so most of the time, yet forever changed.

Viktor had made a critical mistake.
He was not always good at keeping an eye on the calendar, but usually hanging it above the bed in his dorm room did the trick, the date of the full mood enthusiastically circled in red. Heâs been precise about marking the calendar at the start of each yearâ he bought his planner and a wall calendar, marked them systematically in red, double-checking against astronomy studies to ensure he had the dates accurately. He didnât forget. He hadnât forgotten a shift since he was a child. He had learned that lesson, written it in blood on the pages of his mind, the log of his personal laws, held close and private, the things he had never told anyone. Never would. Watch your shifts. Keep your secrets.
And then Jayce Talis.
Viktor had almost lost his roommate, in doing so had discovered that the overexhuberant boy heâd already dismissed as just some fratboy studying physics so as not to disappoint his parents was brilliant, an engineer and a passionate scientist, and it had been hard to discover it because Jayce had nearly blown himself to bits with a battery experiment, nearly been expelled, nearlyâ
Viktor had not let the last one get to nearly. Heâd offered Jayce his hand and his support and theyâd made it through. Theyâd kept making it through. And the work was satisfying, the work was exciting, the work was wonderful. And Jayce was exciting, Jayce was wonderful, Jayce wasâ distracting. Jayce was distracting.
Jayce was so distracting, in fact, that Viktor had forgotten to pick his calender back out of the rubble left of their dorm room, and when he turned the page of his agenda after nearly a straight week of working in the lab, he was greeted with red at the top of the page.
For tonight.
Viktor is in the lab, and heâs staring at the page, becauseâ he doesnât have his room. There is no room. There are no specialty heavy blackout curtains to avoid the moonlight, none of his heavy blankets to pull over his head. He lost his minifridge well stocked to ensure he didnât shift because he was hungry, heâd lost his radio speakers for soothing music to avoid shifting because he was stressed, he has nothing, and now Jayce is looking at him with an absolutely perfect look of concern, and Viktor canât even be angry at him, not really. The frustrated little half-crush heâd had on his fratboy idiot roommate who kept asking him if heâd remembered to drink water had bloomed into something furious and stubborn and immobile over the course of the last week, and Jayce had a face that was difficult to stay angry at even if you were immune to human feeling.
Viktor wishes he was immune to human feeling.
But, he isnât, and Jayce is looking at him, worried, so he manages a little shake of his head.
ââI think I need to take the night off.â He hears himself say, from a distance, running calculations in the foreground of exactly what the fuck he was going to have to do. Fundamentally, he couldnât risk bunkering down anywhere populated. He had nothing resembling statistical certainty that he would be able to remain calm enough to avoid shift, and even down one leg, he was much more mobile in wolf form. Certainly mobile enough to kill someone if he got out. Heâd have to go into the forest bordering the university and.... Tie himself to a tree. Hope if he got out all heâd do is eat a few squirrels.
When he was younger, heâd been able to control his shifts. In the grief of his parents' deaths, he had lost control, and heâd never tried again. He couldnât rely on remaining cognizant through the shift. He just couldnât.
He stands, pulling his books together. âI need toâ get some things together.â He says, vaguely, avoiding Jayceâs eyes. âIâll see you later.â
He leaves without hearing Jayceâs reply, not processing what heâs saying.

So.
That was a mistake.
Viktor fully processes how much of a mistake that was when Jayce comes out of the trees as heâs tying himself to a tree, shortly before moonrise. They stare at each other, and Viktor has to bite down a growl. Dammit.
âLeave.â He manages. âNow.â
âWhatââ Jayce starts to speak, but Viktor canât hear him, cuts him off.
âYou need to go, before itâs too late, turn around, walk away.â
âIâm not leaving you.â Jayce snaps, that familiar stubbornness in his expression, the pride that had gotten him into trouble with Heimerdinger and Viktor loved it, loves him, but not now, not right now, he canât want this rightâ
The moonlight breaks through the trees.
Viktorâs never tried to fight a shift before but he fights it now, tries to breathe and resist it, but the moonlightâs like acid on his skin, like a thrill in his blood pouring through him, and he can't, and fighting was a mistake because heâs cried out and Jayce is moving towards him and not away, and canât he see, canât he tell heâs in dangerâ
The shift is all at once, in the space between breaths, the very second he gets distracted. Jayce is too close, the smell of him, the sound of his heartbeat, and Viktor canât fight this. And the ropes do nothing- of course they donât, they werenât made for thisâ and he tears free, lands on his front legs and curls up his back leg, breathing in the air as his eyes adjust through the shift, and thenâ
Then thereâs music.
The wolf doesnât understand, for a minute. The wolf doesnât know why itâs stopping, why itâs not hunting when it can hear the heartbeat of its prey, smell blood and sweat. But Viktor hears the music, and when the wolf lifts its headâ
Jayce is holding the stereo.
The one from the room, the one Viktor used every full moon. The one that had definitely been in pieces a week ago, absolutely had, Viktor had seen it, and now it smells different, anyway, it smells likeâ
Heâs advancing before he thinks about what heâs doing, limping a little, extending his snout. Jayce is holding out the stereo and muttering something rapid fire that the wolf canât make out. Itâs not in English. It might be a prayer.
The stereo smells like grease, and a little like Jayceâs hands. Like his hands had been over it. It also smells like circuitry, like fresh batteries, andâ
Jayce fixed it. Jayce had gathered the parts out of the ruins of their room and fixed it.
The realization jolts Viktor and the wolf back together, mind and matter running into itself, and he freezes, all scents and impressions, half-hearing the calming music. The lullabies.
Jayce sets the radio down, and Viktor can hear his heartbeat racing, but he steps closer.
âYou know me.â He murmurs. âItâs okay. Can I touch you?â
Viktor shys back, a little, scared of his own instincts, scared of the smell of Jayce and how badly he wants it, how badly he wants Jayce to touch him, and it must show, because Jayce makes a small comforting noise.
âItâs okay.â He murmurs, kneeling. âItâs okay, I'm not going to hurt you.â
Iâm not scared of you, you idiot.
Viktor canât speak, just growls, and for some reason that makes Jayce smile at him, and thatâs too much to bear, Viktor is moving before he thinks about it, jumping forward and knocking Jayce over, and he ignores Jayceâs little squeak of fearâ Should have been scared sooner, you reckless, insaneâ Viktor cuts off his own train of thought and adjusts his weight over Jayce, and then he lays down directly on top of him, squishing him into the ground.
Jayce squeaks. âUhâ Viktor?â
Viktor arranges his paws so his weight is on his good legs, and Jayce can still breathe, and then sets his chin down.
âViktor?â Jayce squeaks. âViktor, Did I do something wrong?â
He huffs.
âYou gotta let me up sometime.â
Not till morning, jackass.
And the morning finds them curled up together on the forest floor, and if Viktor wakes up sore on top of Jayce and decides heâs just gonna go back to sleep, then, well. Thatâs nobodyâs business but his.
The last one is both a design for an AU, and a form he can take in the werewolf AU! (Tho in the AU he doesn't have the metal piece on his face).
Basically, if the moon is huge and yellow but ISN'T a full moon, he can transform into an "inbetween" form. More humanoid, but has a lot of the wolf features. It's waaay easier to control, but also a lot weaker.
