Previous | Next | Imprinted Masterlist
You knew the babies would be here soon, you just didnât know how soon. Your due date came and went, and you were still uncomfortable with an alarmingly huge stomach that Minghao loved to cuddle and coo at â and Junhui when he thought both of you were asleep. You wanted to just have your babies in your arms, but you also knew what would come with that: a very sulky Jun.
Admittedly, you were worried about Junhui. Sure, he had fallen for Faye and Wonwooâs daughter which kept him distracted, and when Bang Chan and his pack were in trouble, that helped keep his mind off of things too, but you knew things would go back to being bad when you gave birth to Minghaoâs babies. Junhui would get jealous and be reminded that he wasnât the first one to have kids with you, and you couldnât handle dealing with that anymore. You felt awful for him, but there was nothing anybody could do.
âYou look uncomfortable,â Jaehee frowned as you waddled slowly into the kitchen, one hand resting on your stomach while the other was on your side, slightly pressing into your sore back. âYou should sit down; I can get you whatever you need.â
The pack was constantly looking out for you, and you more than appreciated it. With a tired huff, you sat down in one of the chairs at the kitchen table while Joshuaâs mate got up to get you something to eat.
âThank you, Jae,â you smiled softly.
âHow do you feel?â she wondered.
âUncomfortable,â you sighed, letting your head fall back and your eyes close. âOn the bright side, Junâs asleep and Minghaoâs at school, so they canât bicker with each other.â
âAt least theyâve been better about, yâknow...not hating each other,â she offered with a shrug.
âI know,â you sighed, âbut I know it hurts Junhui, and itâs just stressful.â
âDonât focus on stress,â Jaehee said sternly, turning to look at you. "Stress is bad andâ well, you remember from Faye.â
The good thing about not being the first to have kids was that the pack already went through everything with Faye, Wonwoo, and little Sonny â and thankfully, everything went smoothly. But she also only had one child, and you were having twins.
Jaehee made you lunch and talked with you while you ate before helping you to the living room to sit down and relax. You stretched your feet out across the ottoman that she pushed over to you before she covered you with a fuzzy blanket and said sheâd be in the kitchen studying if you needed anything. So with the TV remote beside you, and the soft sound of talking filling your ears, you dozed off on the couch.
-
You feltâŚwet. Not the kind of wet you were used to feeling before you were pregnant â both of your mates were terrified of doing anything like that because they didnât want to hurt you or the babies â but a kind that felt like you not only soaked your clothes, but the couch and the blanket.
But because of Faye, you knew what this was.
âJun!â you called, your voice slightly shaky. You felt like you were panicking, but you werenât sure why you were panicking.
Instead, it was Jaehee who came rushing into the room, looking at you with eyebrows raised and mouth open to say something. Then she saw the wet stains on your clothes, and her brain seemed to shut down as she just stared.
âU-uhâŚâ she stammered before yelling, âF-Faye!â
âWhereâs Jun?â you asked.
âHe left!â Jaehee told you, seeming to panic more than you â like, really panic.
Faye came walking down the stairs, harshly hushing the two of you. When she entered the room, she was carrying a sleeping Sonny in her arms.
âCan you not be so loud? I just gotâ Oh my god, _____âŚâ she gasped when she took in what was going on with you, her scolding ceasing entirely. âWe need to get you to the hospital.â
âHow?â Jaehee asked through gasping breaths. âAll the cars are gone, and Junâs gone, a-andâ Andââ
Faye turned to the older girl, âShh, itâs alright,â her voice was soft as she tried to console Jaehee, who was clearly about to lose it. âJust breathe, okay? _____ will be fine.â
âB-but what if we have to deliver the baby? Thereâs nobody here, and we donât know if somebody can get here in time, andââ
âDonât worry about that, Iâll take care of it,â Faye promised, cutting off Jaeheeâs babbling, âJust take Sonny upstairs and try to relax, okay? Iâll call somebody and make sure everythingâs okay.â
Jaehee nodded, seeming to calm down a little now that she knew somebody else was going to be in charge of you. Faye handed the infant over to Joshuaâs mate before the older girl took the baby back upstairs. Meanwhile, Faye went over to you, who was trying to breathe through your first contraction.
âDo I call Jun or Hao?â she asked, sitting beside you and placing a hand over your stomach.
âJ-Junâs probably closer,â you breathed.
As Faye took her phone out of her pocket, you heard the front door close before you heard Junâs voice calling, âCloser for what? And whatâs that smell?â
âThatâs your mate going into labor, you big fucking moron!â Faye called back, standing up from the couch to meet Jun as he ran right into the living room, his eyes bugging out of his head. âWhy would you leave her alone when sheâs this pregnant?â
âSheâsâ So theyâreâ Weââ
âStop babbling and get her things,â Faye instructed. âIâll call Jeonghan since heâs probably closer.â
For a moment, Jun just stood there, blinking and staring at you. Faye walked up to him and shoved at his shoulders.
âDonât just stand there!â she barked. âGo!â
As Jun finally booked it down the hall and up the stairs, Faye started to call Jeonghan.
While Jun was upstairs to get your hospital bag, the reality of what was happening was staring to slowly sink in. You and Minghao would be parents together soon, and what did that make him? He still had nothing, and you and Minghao were going to be all over each other and the new babies.
Suddenly, he wasnât as shocked over your water breaking anymore. Now, he was back to being upset.
-
Faye stayed home with Jaehee and Sonny while Jeonghan and Soonyoung drove you and Jun to the hospital. Soonyoung babbled excitedly with Jeonghan nagging him to shut up in between, and Junhui sat beside you in the backseat with his hand loosely wrapped around yours. Your mate was trying to give you soft words of encouragement, but you could tell he was still upset. It started to make you really question how things would be after all of this.
Faye had also contacted Joshua, Minghao, and Aya to let them know about what was happening just so theyâd be prepared. Joshua promised heâd be on his way to the hospital to meet up with Ayaâs mom and prepare for you.
When you got to the hospital, it didnât take long to get you into a room. Joshua arrived before Minghao did, already in scrubs and with a smirk on his face.
âMore babies to keep us up at night,â he said, his tone deadpan. âCanât wait.â
âThe girls have no problem sleeping through it,â Jeonghan pointed out. âWell, except Aya and Faye, obviously.â
But you didnât even care about waking up at all hours of the day and night. You were just happy to have your little bundles of joy in your arms with you. You couldnât wait, but you also felt a pang in your heart from your excitement. Your eyes drifted over to Junhui who was trying to hide his sulking as he sat in a chair pulled up beside your bed.
Minghao showed up fifteen minutes later, running and out of breath. He smiled as soon as he saw you, and it was the brightest, most hypnotizing smile. So hypnotizing, in fact, that you almost missed how Jun got up and swiftly left the room without a word.Â
Almost.
Your smile fell as your eyes followed your other mateâs back until he was out of view. Minghao turned to see his brother walk away before he looked back at you with a sad smile.
âDonât worry,â he told you softly as he walked over to take Junâs seat. He took one of your hands in both of his large ones. âHeâll come around.â
âWhat if he never does?â you wondered worriedly. âWhat if he hates them?â
Minghao hushed you softly, letting go of your hand with one of his to smooth your hair back soothingly, âDonât worry about that. You know he wonât hate them. He may be upset at first, but heâll come around. Just focus on right now, okay? No stressing.â
You nodded, so Minghao smiled and leaned over to press a kiss to your forehead.
Slowly, more of the pack accumulated in the hospital -- including Jaehee, who left as soon as Wonwoo got home -- coming in to say hello and see how you were doing before going to wait either in the waiting room or in the cafeteria. Hours had gone by full of pain and labored breaths and Minghao reassuring you whenever you needed it. You were actually both surprised and touched that he never left you. Not when he was hungry, not when he was tired, and not when you squeezed his hand so hard that he was even hissing slightly in pain.Â
Meanwhile, Junhui never came into the room. He wanted to because his instincts told him to be with his mate, but he didnât want to see those babies that would look and smell like you and Minghao. He didnât want any part of that, at least not yet. He stayed in the hospital, but he didnât go in the room.
âYouâre being a big baby,â Bomi said bluntly, making Junhui grimace even more.
âNo,â Juri spoke up, placing a small hand over Junâs, âwe understand why you feel this way.â
âBut,â Areum cut in, âyouâre totally being a big baby.â
Jun just slid down further in his chair and mumbled to himself, crossing his arms over his chest.
âGuys, câmon. Just cut him a break,â Jaehee said with a small shrug. âItâs not easy having to share a mate.â
Bomi opened her mouth to retort, but when she remembered who she was speaking to, she quickly snapped it shut.Â
âI know Iâd hate sharing,â Jeonghan mumbled, grouchy at the mere thought of having to let somebody else touch and love his mate like he did.
âI just canât believe sheâs having his babies,â Jun sulked, his eyes staying glued to the table they sat around in the cafeteria. âI imprinted first and Iâm oldest; I should have kids first, right?â
âWellâŚtechnically, Wonwoo had kids first,â Bomi shrugged, trying to make light of the situation.
âLook, Jun,â Seungcheol began, leaning forward and resting his arms on the table, âwe get that this is hard for you, but are you really going to resent these babies forever?â
âNot forever,â he said. ââŚJust until I get a baby...â
âOh my god, youâre a child,â Eunmi groaned.
âIâll show you a childâŚâ Junhui grumbled, eyeing the shorter mate.
Eunmi raised her eyebrows, âNo, but Minghao will.â
âOkay!â Juri cut in quickly, standing up and grabbing Eunmiâs hand, pulling her to her feet. âCâmon, letâs go get you some frozen yogurt, huh?â
As she walked away quickly, Jeonghan tried to tell Junhui not to listen to Eunmiâs comment because she was just trying to get to him.
He sighed and looked around at his friends still sitting at the table with him, âI donât want to hate some infants, and Iâm not saying I do or will. But I canât control my instincts, so whatever happens, happens.â
âTheyâre still _____âs kids, though,â Areum cut in. âWhat would you do if you imprinted on her and she already had a kid from another relationship? Would you hate her kid then?â
âThis is way different,â Jun insisted.
âThese feelings wonât last forever,â Seungcheol promised. âNeither will the aggression. Or depression.â
âAnd youâll get your turn to be a dad,â Jaehee told him with a smile. âDonât worry about that. I bet as soon as _____ is healed, sheâll want you all over her.â
Junhui scoffed, rolling his eyes as he let himself wallow further in self-pity. He knew his friends wanted to help him, but he just wanted to be left alone â or to change the past, but that clearly wasnât going to happen.
âGuys!â Mingyu called, running into the cafeteria. âHey, you guys!â
Bomi groaned, hiding her face in her hands, âCan I pretend I donât know him? People are staring.â
âInside voice, Gyu,â Juri said as she walked back over to the table side-by-side with Eunmi who now had a cup of frozen yogurt in her hands.
âItâs _____,â he said as he stopped at the table. âSheâs about to give birth; she wants Junhui up there.â
Jun stiffened in his chair, surprised at what he just heard. You wanted him there? Why?
He didnât even bother turning to look at Mingyu as he mumbled, âShe has Minghao.â
âShe said she wants you, dude,â he insisted. âSheâs in a lot of pain, and sheâs really overwhelmed and scared.â
Junhui did his best to suppress the whimper wanting to sound out. Instead, he cleared his throat and asked, âWhy canât Minghao comfort her? I donât want to see it.â
âIâm serious, Junhui. Sheâs crying for you. She needs both of you there.â
He cursed under his breath before he stood up from the chair and jogged out of the cafeteria, going straight for the stairs instead of the elevator. That was when he picked up the pace, reaching your floor in no time.
When he got close to your room, he realized Mingyu wasnât lying. He could hear you whimpering to Minghao about how you wanted Jun and how you too scared to do this. He could hear Minghao trying to reassure you, but you ended up choking out a sob instead.
He opened the door to see you with tears streaming down your flushed face as Minghao held one of your hands with both of his own. Joshua and Dr. Moon were already there, prepared to help you deliver the twins, but only Joshua and Minghao looked up when the door opened.
âLook who it is, love,â Minghao said softly to you.
You opened your eyes and lifted your head to see Junhui staring at you with an unreadable expression. But you were still so relieved and happy that you reached out to him with your free hand and cried his name. He walked over to you without even thinking, as if there were a magnetic pull that just brought him to you. His hand found yours, holding it close to his chest.
âWhy are you crying?â he asked softly, using his other hand to wipe tears from your face.
You shook your head, âI donât think I can do thisâŚâ
Junhui chuckled and shook his head â he also wondered why you didnât think of this about nine months ago, âWhat are you planning on doing? Keeping them in there?â
âIâm scared,â you confessed with a sniffle.
You were scared for a plethora of reasons, but anybody could guess them. Being a mom, the pain, the aftermath and dealing with Jun â the list went on. And your mates knew every single reason you were afraid.
âYou can do this,â Junhui told you, giving your hand a reassuring squeeze. âMinghao and I will be by your side the whole time, okay?â
âPromise?â
âOf course I promise.â
âWhen have we ever left you when you were scared?â Minghao reminded you.
You were starting to feel a little better, up until Dr. Moonâs eyes flashed up to look at you, and she asked, âReady or not, theyâre coming.â
That sent cold fear straight through you.
Thanks to Junhuiâs instincts, he was able to push aside his feelings to focus only on you. He needed to make sure you were okay and would be okay, so that was his main priority at the moment. It didnât matter if he had to work together with Minghao, and it didnât matter that he would be forced to see you and Minghao get all cozy together when you held your babies. All that mattered to him was you.
So, as you cried and grunted and yelled through the pain and the pushing, Junhui told you how well you were doing and how much he loved you. He sounded sincere and genuine, unlike his half-assed attempts in the car. He let you squeeze his hand while he just took it without flinching. And when he saw the first baby in the doctorâs arms after it came out, he didnât suddenly freeze up or get a shot of anger course through him. He still focused on you.
Nothing could get his attention off of you. Not the second cry, not Dr. Moon and Joshua speaking. Not even Minghao as he kissed your forehead tenderly when you collapsed back into the bed. As he looked at you with your messy hair, sheen of sweat on your skin, and red face, all he could focus on was how much he loved you.
But that was quickly short-lived.
âWe have the babies,â Joshua sang as he entered the room with Ayaâs mother, each of them holding a baby. âWanna see?â
Junhui still didnât want to be there for it. He wanted to be anywhere but there. Just smelling two humans that were a mix of you and Minghao was a weird experience for him.
âIâm gonnaâŚgoâŚâ Jun mumbled, letting go of your hand.
âJunhui, please stay,â Minghao begged, though you didnât understand any of it. âThey may be ours by genetics, but theyâre still yours, too. Theyâll still look up to you as a father, wonât they? You should still meet them.â
Jun paused while Minghao spoke, processing his words. But in the end, he carried on to the door, leaving you and Minghao with your new little family behind.
You frowned, looking up at Minghao, âWhat was that?â
âHe just needs a little break,â Minghao explained, not wanting to make you upset â especially not now. âHeâll be back later. I promise.â
Dr. Moon walked up to you, holding a baby swaddled in a blanket with a pink hat on its head, âCongratulations on two baby girls.â
Your heart swelled with love and joy and every good feeling as she carefully put one of the babies in your arms. As soon as you held her, everything just felt right. You teared up as you looked down at her face, wondering how one little person could be so perfect.
Minghao thought the same about the baby Joshua handed over to him. She looked just like you, and it was even better because he just knew it was something you and him made together. He more than teared up when he held her. He cried as he let out soft laughs and pressed a feather-light kiss to her forehead.
âYou are the most perfect thing Iâve ever seen,â he whispered as he cradled her closer.
âHave you picked out any names?â Joshua asked as he smiled at the scene before him.
You and Minghao had bounced around on names. Youâd pick one, and then change your minds. But there was one that Minghao had been pretty dead set on for the last couple months. He thought it was pretty because it meant sunflower in his language.
âThis one is Aili,â you announced, not looking away from her face.
âAnd, this oneâŚâ Minghao began, but he trailed off, a half-smile growing on his face as he looked away from the unnamed baby to you. âI think I have a great name for her.â
-
Jun sat just down the hall, his back up against the wall as he drowned out your talking with the hospital noises around him. So Minghao didnât have to go far to find him.
Junhui looked up when he saw shoes standing beside him, only to see his brother smiling down at him.
âNo offense, but I want to just be left alone right now,â Jun mumbled, looking back down at the floor.
âStop being mopey and come with me,â Minghao said, ignoring Junâs attitude â nothing could bring him down from how happy he felt, not even Junhui. âThereâs somebody you really need to meet.â
âI told you, I donât want to see your kids, okay?â
âJust trust me.â
Minghao held out a hand, offering to help Junhui up. Jun only glanced at him for a moment before sighing and pushing himself off the ground himself. He stuffed his hands into the pockets of his jeans as he trailed behind Minghao.
When Jun entered the room, he looked anywhere but at you or the two babies â one in your arms, and the other in Joshuaâs. So as Jun went to go stand in the corner, he didnât see Minghao take the baby from Joshâs arms and walk over to him with her.
âHold your arms up,â Minghao told him.
âStop, you know Iââ
âJunhui, come on,â Minghao said, his voice firmer than the older boy expected.
With a permanent scowl, Jun held out his arms to take the baby girl from Minghao. As soon as she touched his arms, his whole body instantly felt warm. The feeling almost made him shiver â it was like the first time he ever got to touch you.
As if they had a mind of their own, Junâs eyes wandered down to the little baby in his hands, and suddenly, that scowl wasnât as permanent as he thought. All his anger, resentment, and sadness completely melted away as he looked down at the infant in his arms. If he werenât holding a baby, he wouldâve let his knees give out, but he was too scared heâd drop her.
You let out a breath you didnât know you were holding. You were so afraid that Jun would absolutely hate the babies, so when you saw only fondness in his eyes, your own started to tear up.
Minghao smiled as he watched the frown on Junâs face melt into a look of wonder.
âThis,â Minghao began, âis Meihui, inspired by my immature but very loveable brother: Junhui.â
Junâs eyes flashed up to Minghaoâs, a look of pure surprise on his face as a smile slowly started to break through onto his face, âYou named her after me?â
âOf course,â he shrugged as if the gesture was nothing, even though he knew it meant a lot to his brother.
Jun couldnât help but smile widely, his teeth completely on display as he looked back down at Meihui in his arms. Even though she seemed to be sleeping, he thought he could stare at her for hours and not get bored. He was completely wrapped around her little finger already.
âBut you are much better than I am,â Jun whispered to her before he leaned down and pressed his lips softly to her forehead. âYouâre absolutely perfect.â
âDo you want to hold Aili?â you offered, your voice cracking just a bit.
Jun looked up at you immediately, laughing softly, âBaby, why are you crying?â
âNothing,â you reassured him as Minghao took Meihui, and Jun walked over to take Aili from you, âdonât worry about it.â
Jun felt just as happy and fond as he held the other girl, cradling her to his chest as he studied her face with the same bright smile on his lips. You and Minghao just watched him with happy expression, glad that the old Jun was coming back to you.
âI canât believe two things so perfect are actually half Hao,â he teased, looking up at his brother.
Minghao rolled his eyes, âCome on, you know theyâre perfect because theyâre half _____.â
âAh, youâre right,â Jun nodded before he leaned over to kiss your temple.
You opened your mouth to tell them they were both being cheesy, but all that came out was a yelp. You started feeling contractions again, and they were just as bad as the previous ones. Your hands flew to your stomach as your face contorted in pain.
âWhatâs happening?â Junhui asked worriedly, looking between Joshua and Ayaâs mom.
âItâs just all theâŚafterbirth stuff,â Joshua explained, waiving a hand away.
Dr. Moon sat back down on the stool in front of your bed, moving your legs to the side, âAh, actually⌠I think that ultrasound mightâve been wrong.â
âWrong?â you burst.
âWrong?â Joshua repeated, walking over to see what she was talking about. âOh my godâŚâ
âWhat?â Minghao asked as your two mates also moved down to your lower half to see what was happening.
âCan you two stay up here?â you whined.
âHereâs the thing...â Joshua began as he looked at you with an odd expression that you couldnât read, âwith two or more babies, ultrasounds get very hard to read. Gender and numbers kind of become more likeâŚan educated guess.â
As the pain only got worse, you asked through clenched teeth, âWhat does that mean?â
âWell, I can see a head, soâŚâ Dr. Moon said as she put on a new pair of gloves. âYouâre about to have triplets.â
You swore, you almost passed out right there.
Jun looked to Minghao accusingly, âJesus, what did you do to her?â
âNo, Jun,â Joshua shook his head. âTrust me when I say that I donât sense any Minghao from this one.â
Your eyes were squeezed shut as you gripped the sides of your bed so hard that your knuckles were completely white, so you didnât see the way Junâs eyes widened.
ââŚWhat?â he asked just above a whisper.
