Well, I was just doing his weekly water change and accommodating his sand when suddenly he just threw himself to the ground and stopped moving at all and when I looked back at him later he had already burst his old exoskeleton and he had little left to go out completely

Here he was just out of his shell, he looked tired and somewhat nervous

A few days before I had already noticed it calmer than normal since he usually moves around his aquarium doing crayfish things and when he decreased his activity I imagined that this could happen, but I thought it was more likely that he died because I really have no idea how old it is since I only took it from the bottom of a somewhat polluted river near my city

Anyway, this really surprised me especially because I did not expect this to happen now, I take myself by complete surprise

I would really like to take the shell and keep it but he is supposed to eat it in the next few days to take from the old shell the minerals he need to harden the new one, although there is still the possibility that leave the claws which would be great hahaha

By the way, it is a swamp red crayfish (procambarus clarkii), a species that is listed on the list of the 100 most harmful invasive species in the world due to its high rate of adaptation and easy proliferation and in the river from where it is taken, as in many other places, it is an introduced species that now puts at risk the stability of some native species of the region where I live such as the leopard frog (lithobates berlandieri) or the endemic saltillo carp (gila modesta)
