P.s.: This is long. lol. Oh! And I listened to The xx- Intro if interested.
Meryl sat in the middle of her hotel bed propping her elbows on her knees and cupping her face. She stared down at her phone.
“Come on… Come on.” She whispered.
She stared at the phone willing the black screen to light up with a notification but nothing happened. She groaned and fell back onto her bed. Maks, Jenna, and the rest of the BWaT Crew had finally made it back from Hawaii and tonight she was finally going to see him for the first time in weeks.
Jenna had texted her earlier in the day saying they had arrived and they would text her when she should head over to Maks’ but that was 5 hours ago and she was getting impatient. In truth she loved Jenna and Val but the person she wanted to see… no needed to see was Maks and Maks alone.
Her body ached for his touch and her soul burned for his presence. She missed him with every cell in her body and every time they were apart it was harder and more noticeable. She turned to her side and rolled out of bed. She walked to the long mirror and checked herself over. She wore a white flowy dress with a turtle neck and her hair down. She looked at her phone on the bed through the mirror and saw the still dark screen and huffed.
She folded her arms over her chest and eyed the room, trying to find something to do. Her gaze landed back on her still doormat phone and then she snapped. She walked over to her phone with purpose and swiped it off the bed. She grabbed her wallet and her keys and was out the door without a second thought.
Meryl drove through the winding hills and streets of West Hollywood from memory, a left here go through two stop signs, it’s on the right and even though it had gotten dark quickly she had found his apartment easily. As she was pulling up she noticed Val’s car and two people getting out of it. She swung into the nearest on street parking spot and got out of her car quickly.
“Jenna!” She yelled.
Jenna’s eyes got wide as she saw her best friend. She squealed loudly enough to wake the neighborhood and ran to meet her, “Lyrem!”
They met in a hug. Meryl was so happy to see her friend she had forgotten Val was there. She broke her hold on Jenna and squeezed Val, “Hey, you.”
“Hey, Mer.” He smiled and kissed her on her head, “How have you been?”
She smiled and shrugged, “Busy.”
“Will you take a picture of us?” Jenna fiddled with her phone and handed it over to Val. The two girls squeezed together and smiled. Meryl was sure she that was the biggest smile she’d had on her face all week, “I’ll send it to you, okay?”
“Sounds good.” She turned to Val again and stared at him, smiling.
“What?” He laughed.
“I’ve missed you!” She said and hugged him again.
Val rubbed her back and laughed some more, “If I’m getting this kind of greeting I can only guess what my brother had.”
“I haven’t seen him yet,” She said.
Val pushed her at arm’s length and raised his half eyebrow at her, “You haven’t seen Maks yet? I knew you liked me more.”
“You’re probably right,” She laughed. She looked up at his apartment and saw his deck light was on. She craned her neck to see if she saw anything else but didn’t, “I didn’t get a text so I just drove over here.”
Jenna furrowed her brow at her, “That’s weird. Maks texted Val and told us to come over.”
Meryl narrowed her eyes for a second and checked her phone and still had no text from him. She looked back at her friends and shook her head, “Maybe he thought he did.”
“Well princess, let’s go find out.” Val said putting his arm around both Jenna and Meryl.
The three of them walked up the three flights of stairs to Maks’ apartment and Val got his key out.
“You two ready for a little double date action?” Meryl asked playfully.
Jenna smirked at her and rolled her eyes at Val, “We aren’t calling it a date.”
Val turned the key in the lock and looked back and shrugged, “We aren’t dating.”
Jenna laughed and shrugged then looked Val up and down slowly, “You saw the hat situation.”
Meryl felt her jaw slack and raised her eyebrows at Jenna, “Oh my gosh.”
Jenna widened her eyes at her friend playfully then followed after Val into the modern, open apartment. It smelled amazing and loud dance music was playing in the background. Val took Jenna’s sweater from her and laid it across the couch and yelled, “Bro we’re here.”
There was a clanging coming from the direction of the kitchen and then a yell, “Hey, bro. Is Jenna with you? Can you send her to the deck to make sure it looks okay? She knows what Meryl likes.” Maks’ voice got closer, “And you know how the dimmer sometimes doesn’t –“
Maks had finally come into view he was waving a spatula in hand and was shirtless and fresh faced. When he saw her his smiling face dropped as well as jaw. He stared at her for a second, as if not really sure she was there, “Meryl?”
She pushed through the two in front of her and ran into his arms. She swore as she felt the prick of tears in her eyes. She heard him drop the spatula and his strong arms encircled her. He bent down to press his forehead against hers and closed his eyes. She held on for dear life. She had missed him even more than she thought she had now that she was in his arms. His strong hold only got tighter the longer they stayed that way. She felt his racing heart against her own and reveled in the comfort in it.
“God I missed you,” She whispered.
He shook his head against hers and swallowed, “Not as much as I missed you.” He brought a hand to the back of her head and kissed her hard. She brought her hands to rest on his bare chest.
“Ahem.” Val cleared his throat.
She pulled back remembering their audience and laughed breathily. She let out a deep breath and stepped back, not taking her eyes off of him, “Sorry, guys.”
“It’s okay,” Jenna’s voice came from behind, smiling.
Maks didn’t break their gaze either, “Val can I talk to you in the kitchen?”
Val walked past them and Maks walked backwards a few steps then held a finger up to tell her to give him a second. She only nodded and smiled at him, heart sad to see him go.
Jenna came up behind her and put her arm around Meryl, “Wow. That was… intense.”
Meryl tore her gaze away from the direction he’d left and looked up at Jenna. She felt her face flush but she smiled still, “Sorry.”
“No,” Jenna said happily, “Honestly? It’s amazing. He treats you like a queen.”
Meryl nodded at her friend and reached up to hold Jenna’s hand, “He really does.”
The girls found their way to the living room set and sat down waiting for the guys to come back. Val came back alone with a very suspicious smile, “Hey, Jenna. I forgot we have that thing tonight for Dancing. You know how they get if we miss those.”
Jenna raised an eyebrow at him. They had a silent conversation for two that Meryl didn’t catch. Jenna stood and walked over to Val and grabbed his hand, “I forgot Lyrem. We have to get to the studio or they may kick me off Troupe this time.” She smiled.
Meryl didn’t buy it.
“What’s going on?”
“Bye, Princess.” Val turned on his heels and pulled Jenna with him. Before she knew it she was sitting in Maks’ apartment alone and confused. She stood up and looked around and caught sight of the dimly lit deck and walked over to it. She pushed the sliding glass door and found his deck lined with white candles, soft music, and a beautiful table set for two.
She walked into the center of the room and smiled, placing a hand over her heart. She felt her heart ache from happiness and the threaten of tears in her eyes. She took in a deep breath and laughed. How did she get so lucky?
“Baby?”
Meryl turned her head to see Maks stood in the door way with a sad on his lips, “Surprise?”
She turned fully around now and raised and dropped her hands, “Maks. Baby. This… This is incredible.”
He shrugged boyishly and walked to her. Maks slipped his arms around her and she leaned into him and breathed him in, relief flooding over her. She grappled at his biceps, clinging on… making sure he was there, “Don’t let me go.”
He squeezed her tighter, bringing her impossibly close, “I never want to.”
She bit her lip. She hated how much she loved him. She hated the overwhelming need she had for him and she hated that she didn’t want to be anywhere else but with him, ever. She used to think Michigan was her home… The ice was her home… A place was her home but she knew now that the only home she had was wherever he was.
She kissed his heart and closed her eyes, “I love you too much.”
He nodded, “I love you more than I’ve loved anyone.”
She pulled out of his arms and looked up to search his eyes. He looked sad and happy at the same time, “What’s wrong?”
“I’m thinking about tomorrow.” He said looking above her and out at West Hollywood. She turned to look at it with him.
“It’ll be okay.” She whispered.
He slid his arms back around her, this time so his chest was flush against her back, “If you say so.”
She held onto his hand, slipping her thumb into her hold. She leaned against him and swayed as they looked over the hills of the city. That’s the flaw. The flaw in their relationship. There was always tomorrow.
He leaned down and placed a soft kiss on her bare shoulder, sending shivers up her spine. Every kiss from him was like a little shock. She slid her hand up and around his neck, hanging on, “Lets only think about tonight.”
He nodded into her neck and then kissed her shoulder again, this time leaving a hot wet trail. She scratched the back of his neck, urging him on. His grip around her waist tightened, bunching the flowly material. She rocked against his hips feeling his desire for her.
“I need you,” His voice was not his own. It was sad, desperate, and needy. It wasn’t the typical need and she knew it. He needed the closeness; that raw, unapologetic, completely truthful, unbelievable and real closeness that was their relationship.
She turned in his arms and stood on her tip toes and locked eyes with him, “You have me.”
He stared into her eyes and then brought his hands to her face then pulled her lips against him in the neediest and most emotional kiss she’d ever experienced. She could feel his love pouring out of him and into the kiss.
When the kiss broke they were out of breath. Meryl trailed a kiss from his lips to his jaw down to his neck and to his chest. She let her hands explore the planes of his body that she burned into her memory. He watched her silently as she traced his tattoo and the curves of his veins in his arms. She needed to remember every inch of him.
She reached the hem of his jeans and looked him in the eye as she unbuttoned his pants. She let them fall to the ground and as he stepped out of them she reached for him again. She kissed him with reckless abandon, tongues mixing and stirring heat from the deepest part of her.
“I want to remember every part of you,” She said against his lips, “I want to know you better than I know myself.”
“You already do,” He said.
He turned her around and pushed her hair out of the way, pulling the little white zipper down the length of her dress. He pushed the dress off her neck and her shoulder, letting it fall to the ground in a puddle like his pants had.
“You know my smile, and my laugh,” He turned her back around and kissed the length of her neck, “You know the way I drive and the way I move,” He ran his strong hands up her hips, her waist, and her ribs. He traced half-moons over the sensitive skin underneath her breasts, “You know how I like my eggs and what I sing in the shower,” He pulled her flush against him so she could feel how ready he was for her, “You know me.”
He picked her played with the hem of her lace thong, his long fingers teasing and finally pulling them down, “No one has ever known me like you Meryl.”
She felt goose bumps rise on her porcelain skin as the chilled LA night air wrapped around her naked body. She reached for the hem of his briefs and made quick work of them. She stepped back and looked him over. He was amazing. The candlelight and moon light mix made him even more gorgeous.
“I love you, Maks.”
He closed the gap between them and picked her up, her legs wrapping instantly around his waist. She felt his need for her against her belly as she kissed him even deeper. He sat her on the ledge of the deck and wrapped his hands around her waist, “Here?”
She nodded, not needing to look around because even if she’d regret it later she needed him now.
He locked eyes with her and took one hand to guide himself into her, the other still holding her steady. Her hands clung to the back of his neck, digging her nails. As they joined they both let out a moan of relief. She felt herself mold around him, stretching. She relished the feeling of them finally connecting.
He moved in her, bringing her against him, never breaking contact. She clung onto him staring him in the eyes. There was so much love there, she thought. She couldn’t look away if she wanted to.
His pace was slow but perfect. With ever push she got a little closer and she bit her lips as he pushed in even deeper. He started to pick up the pace drawing short gasps from her throat.
“Cum with me,” She said, leaning her forehead against his. His eyes caught fire as he nodded to her, picking up his pace even more.
Soon they were both flying over the edge. Her body pulsed around him making him groan. He held onto her until they both caught their breaths. He didn’t leave her but picked her back up and brought her to the sofa. He lay down and she lay on top of him, their hearts matching each other.
She felt wetness on his chest and realized it had come from her eyes. She felt her face burn as she quickly tried to dry away the tears, hoping to play them off as sweat.
“Don’t be embarrassed baby,” He whispered against her head.
“I’m sorry,” She suddenly was washed with an overwhelming sadness.
She sniffed and wiped her eyes, “God, this is embarrassing.”
He cradled the back of her head and began to slowly rub her hair, “Shhh.”
She took some deep breaths and shook her head, “I don’t know how you do this to me.”
He didn’t respond for a while. They just laid in each other’s arms, looking out over the night sky. At some point they had both fallen asleep. Meryl woke to the sun in her eyes and turned against his chest, burying her face there.
“Good morning,” He stretched. She climbed off of him, amazed they hadn’t let go of each other once.
“Good morning,” She smiled.
She suddenly remembered her nakedness and turned to find her dress. She slipped it over her head and turned for him to zip it up, not needing to say anything.
“What time is it?” She wondered aloud. She checked his phone that was lying on the table and it read 9:03. She groaned and looked up at him. She shrugged, “It’s tomorrow.”
He nodded solemnly, “What time?”
“Soon.”
He nodded again and covered his eyes with a large hand and the ran it up through his hair, “Okay.”
He stood and threw his jeans on that hung low on his hips. He pulled her into his arms and leaned his head against hers, “I hate tomorrows even more than goodbyes.”
They walked into his apartment hand in hand and he made her something to eat quick. She had to leave soon, she had a plane to catch and before that she had to pack. She looked at the clock on the wall and knew that her time here had come to an end.
“I gotta-“
“Go.” He finished for her. He took the empty plate that sat in front of her and threw it in the dish washer before grabbing her hand, “I’ll walk you out.”
They got to her car and he’d opened the door for her. She got in begrudgingly and started the car, rolling the window down. She looked up at him and put her sunglasses on and gave him a weak smile, “Okay.”
“I wish there was more time.”
“Me too…” She said. She looked down at the clock in her car and rolled her eyes. She looked out ahead and remembered Val and Jenna, “Hey where did they go? Wasn’t there supposed to be a double date?”
Maks shook his head, “I was going to have Jenna pick you up while Val and I got the surprise ready but you beat me to it.”
Her mouth formed and ‘o’ and then she laughed, “I’m sorry, baby… It was perfect anyways.”
He smiled and rolled his eyes at her, “You are just too impatient.”
“I just wanted to see you,” She countered back, “And I’m glad I did.”
He shrugged at her and pursed his lips as if he had to think about it, “I’m glad you did too.”
They stared at each other for a few moments before Maks patted the car, “You have a plane to catch.”
She pouted, “There’s always tomorrow?”
He nodded, “I love you.”
She nodded back and put the car in drive. He took some steps back to let her get through. She pulled out of her spot and down the street. Maks stood, watching her drive away. She came to the stop sign and looked at him one last time in the review, “It’ll be okay.” She whispered.
She smiled and turned to the right, ready for tomorrow.

But in Defying Gravity, I love the instrumental in the background. It is simple but utterly beautiful. Especially right when she's singing "I am defying gravity" towards the ending.
And For Good. I have no words. My only regret was not being able to watch Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth singing it together. They would make me bawl my eyes out.
My head is filled with glorious music. I sound insane. Whoops.
