Hi, thanks for the ask. I'm grateful for your interest in Weaponmaster, don't get me wrong, but to be perfectly honest, I...don't really have any positive feelings about the story anymore. It was just something I dashed out on a whim way back in college, without any real thought or planning put into it. I obviously can't control how readers react to my work, but I never expected it to be the most popular of my stories and I can't help but...resent it a little for that? I just kind of wish the stories I put legitimate effort into got at least as much attention asdlkfnasdkjfn
Sorry, I know I must sound like a complete whiner and this definitely isn't what you wanted to hear, but these feelings have been brewing in me for a long time and I can't help but want to let them out, you know? Umm, if you still are interested in my writing, I would love if you decided to check out the stories I'm currently posting on Tapas. In particular, I consider The Sky Is Our Fortress to be kind of an update or spiritual successor to Weaponmaster, as it deals with a lot of similar themes but hopefully executed a lot better.
Uhh anyway, as for your questions, the endgame pairing was going to be Aster/Lachlan, and that was the plan from the beginning. Wolfram was always meant to be a romantic false lead, though I screwed up by making Aster's feelings for him way stronger than intended. To be fair Wolfram was my favorite character and the entire reason the story existed so I guess my bias bled into the text. As for the plot, as everyone already guessed, Lachlan was actually the Chaos and the final battle was going to be him vs. Aster, which Aster wins by saving him through the power of true love. Wolfram is furious that Aster didn't kill the Chaos and tries to kill Lachlan himself and becomes the story's true final boss that Aster and Lachlan have to work together to stop. Like I said before, I actually conceived of Weaponmaster as Wolfram's story first and foremost, with his growth and decisions more central to the climax than anything else, and Aster almost as a decoy protagonist for him.
So uh yeah, hope that answers your questions and I'm sorry for being kind of a downer uwaa ;_;
