There's something incredibly poignant about characters that have one of more hands replaced with weapons. Where you would expect a highly multipurpose appendage (hand) instead there is something that does one very specific thing (kill things) very effectively. It's a great way of showing how a character has been dehumanized, that half of the primary way they interact with objects is killing. I don't know, I just think it's neat. I like specialized tools, and that it's a very potent metaphor to replace hands with those tools, since it show you exactly what that character is going to do to interact with the world.
