To be clear, there’s a difference in projects that Jensen was producing and projects in which Jensen was acting. It’s possible for those roles to overlap, but I’ve yet to see any credible information for this about Strange Adventures.
My sources tell me that Chaos Machine was not involved at all in the production of Strange Adventures and the news articles that reported as such have since been corrected.
This also doesn’t mean that Jensen won’t be in future WBDC projects or that there aren’t projects in the work because WB hasn’t killed all their DC projects, just some of them while they are going through a restructuring. They said themselves that they do plan to do more projects in the Batman universe, so it’s very possible that we will see him again in more roles in the Batman universe.
From an article posted August 2022
During the company’s latest earnings call, Zaslav reassured both fans and Wall Street that the studio is hoping to emulate the success of Marvel Studios with its own decade-long roadmap and a dedicated team behind it. “You look at Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman — these are brands that are known everywhere in the world,” the executive emphasized. “We have done a reset. We’ve restructured the business where we are going to focus, where there is going to be a team with a 10-year plan focusing just on DC. We believe we can build a much more sustainable business.”
The redirection in efforts comes just two days after Warner Bros. canceled Batgirl, an HBO Max film that already spent seven months in production and cost the studio an estimated $90 million USD. Perhaps in response to the decision, Zaslav added that as part of the new structure, “we are going to focus on quality. We are not going to release any film before it’s read… DC is something we can make better.”
He concludes: “The objective is to grow the DC brand. To grow the DC characters. But also, our job is to protect the DC brand, and that’s what we’re going to do.”
So people saying that Jensen’s project was cancelled are incorrect (and the articles that claimed it have been corrected).
People saying that Jensen won’t be part of the WBDC universe moving forward or that all of Jensen’s WBDC projects were cancelled are also incorrect because there’s a difference in producing and acting. There’s also a difference between companies dropping the IP versus placing content on hold while they restructure. Yes, they dropped that Batgirl movie, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see Batgirl in another form of media.
Basically, we need to wait to see if Chaos Machine is renewed or not before we’ll have any idea about content Jensen is producing, but even if CM goes go under, that doesn’t mean so does the content where Jensen is acting.
Personally, I get the impression that Jensen enjoys acting way more than producing, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he also dropped CM to focus more on acting. I could also see him keeping it to work on the reboot/revival.
I feel like I’m doing a terrible job of explaining all this, but does that make sense?
