McG and Drew are so Dad & Mom. TONE! TONAL CHANGES! THAT is what a Charlie's Angels director needs to understand! Think about this...the original Charlie's Angels series had 20-ish episodes a season to tell different stories and build the tonal changes that we all love from Charlie's Angels (they're nuns one week, prostitutes the next, one week is about an battered child, the next is about a ski trip). A film director coming in saying "I'm going to make this grounded and modern - ie dark and brooding" is just begging for failure. I love that McG and Drew understand that Charlie's Angels is all about tonal changes, which they orchestrated brilliantly in the 2000s films. Each scene had a different color scheme, a different vibe, but all still felt Charlie's Angels. That is hard to achieve when they have a 100 minute film instead of a 20 episode season! That's why the universe Drew and McG built feels the most like escapist Charlie's Angels goodness for me. Hopefully any future directors stop trying to reinvent the wheel when it comes to the tone of Charlie's Angels!
