XIAOJUN- Promises (One-shot)
Words: 1.7K
Genre: Angst
You laid on your bed, your eyes fixed to the ceiling. The tears from your eyes rolled slowly, one by one. This was the 2nd week that you've been crying all night. The only person who you thought would never break your heart, just broke it into million pieces. He promised you that he would never hurt you. You chose to ignore the saying "promises are meant to be broken."
When you heard the front door open, it was nearly two in the morning. You pretended to be asleep to avoid talking to XiaoJun because you knew you'd breakdown; that's how it's been for two weeks now. He would leave to work early, assuming you were still asleep, and coming back home at one or two in the morning from a bar or who knows where. Whenever you texted him, asking him where he was, he would only say that he's got a lot of work to do. Eventually, you gave up.
You heard your shared bedroom door open quietly and the sound of his footsteps as he moved around. He went to take a quick shower to get rid of the smell of smoke and alcohol from the bar he was at.
Once he was done, he got into the sheets, scrolling through his phone. You were thankful that your back was to him; you didn't want him to see your tear stained face and puffy red eyes.
You heard his phone vibrate for a second before he picked it up. "Hey," he whispered, thinking you were asleep and not wanting to wake you up. You could hear her voice and whatever she was saying, thanks to the pin-drop silence in the room. "Did you get home, baby?"
"Uh, yeah," he said, sounding a little uncomfortable. "I'm gonna sleep now."
"Okay. Will I see you tomorrow? It's a Saturday night."
"Yeah, goodnight," he quickly said and hung up, deeply sighing.
"God, I'm so fucked," you heard him whisper to himself before he switched off the bedside lamp. He suddenly pulled you into his arms, spooning you. You were shocked cause it's been two weeks since he did that. You felt him press his lips to your shoulder before letting out another deep sigh. After a few minutes, he fell asleep.
"Liu Y/N, hurry up," your best friend Hendery said, watching you curl your hair with the curling iron.
You rolled your eyes at his impatience. "Shut up, this was your idea."
"Hey, clubbing is fun, especially on a Saturday night," he said, ruffling his hair. "Plus, you really need to loosen up after everything."
You sighed. He was right. You gave him a small smile. Even though Hendery was XiaoJun's bestfriend too, he knew how to keep a secret; you were waiting for XiaoJun to tell you himself that he's cheating on you.
"I'm done," you say, curling the last strand of hair before you put on your block heels.
"You lookin' good girl!" Hendery said, making you chuckle. "Let's go."
When you got to the club, it was already packed. It has been nearly two months since you've been to a club and frankly, you missed it.Ā
Hendery and you approached the bar to buy drinks. "Eight tequila shots, please."
"That's too much. I have bad alcohol tolerance, Hendery," you warned him.
"I know," he says, watching the bartender pour the liquid into the shot glasses. "But don't worry, all our friends are here, we'll take care of you."
You nodded before you downed the shots one by one. You noticed XiaoJun walking in with a girl who was of course, the girl he was cheating on you with. They sat with some people, drinking beer. You chuckle bitterly at the sight of them before you yell at the bartender to give you another two shots. You could feel the alcohol already getting to you, but you didn't care.
"I'm gonna go dance," you tell Hendery before you downed the shots. You made your way to the crowded dance floor, immediately moving to the beat. You let yourself get lost in the music, enjoying the free feeling.
A hand on your hip interrupted your little moment. You turned around to face the person who happened to be tall, blonde, and absolutely gorgeous.
"Don't stop," he said with a smirk, dancing along with you now. "I'm Cai Jinfeng."
"Liu Y/N," you say with a giggle, clearly pretty drunk.
"Well, I'd buy a beautiful girl like you a drink now, but looks like you're already drunk."
"I can take more," you said, tripping over your own two feet. Jinfeng caught you by your waist, pulling you close to him.
"Hm, clearly," he whispers in your ear. "Let's get out of here, yeah?"
You nod, not giving a damn about XiaoJun anymore; at least, that's what you tried to convince your drunk self.
You tripped again, making Jinfeng laugh and carry you bridal style.
"Wait, wait," you make him stop right outside the entrance. "Take me to that guy in white beside that tree, he's my bestfriend. I have to tell him I'm leaving with you or else he'll be worried."
He nodded and carried you to Hendery, setting you down on your feet in front of him. "I'm taking her with me, bro," Jinfeng said. You didn't notice XiaoJun glaring, standing hardly a foot away from Hendery.
"Where to?" Hendery asked.
"My house."
"Why?"
"What do you mean why?" Jinfeng asked, raising an eyebrow. "It's obvious that we're gonna have some fā"
Before he could complete, XiaoJun's fist collided with his face, making him fall to the ground, clutching his nose in pain.
"What the fuck, dude?!" Jinfeng yelled, blood running from his nose.
"She's clearly drunk and you aren't, and you want to take advantage of her?!" XiaoJun spat, glaring at Jinfeng. "I'm taking her home," he told Hendery before he took your hand in his and pulled you to his car. He strapped you in before starting the car.
The short ride home was extremely quiet. None of you said a word to each other.
"Great," you muttered tiredly under your breath, collapsing on your bed.
"What?" XiaoJun asked.
"You took away my chance of getting laid," you whine, pissing XiaoJun off.
"Are you serious? He was going to take advantage of you, Y/N!"
"Yeah, just like how you took advantage of my feelings for you!"
"What do you mean?" he asked with a gulp.
"You know exactly what I mean, XiaoJun!" you yell, tears rolling down your cheeks. "Why are you here? Go run back to that fucking chick you've been cheating on me with!"
"Y/N, I promise that it's not what you think... Baby, Iā"
"Save it. You think I never knew that you're cheating on me? I spent days fucking crying myself to sleep, wondering where I went wrong that made you cheat. And you still won't admit it? You're pathetic!" your words felt like as if a knife just cut through XiaoJun's heart.
"I promise that I'll explain everything to you once you're sober," he said softly, tears rolling from his eyes too.
"No, I don't want to hear your lies again. You promised that you would never hurt me!" you said, wiping your tears. "Get the fuck out, leave me alone!" XiaoJun just nodded and went to the guestroom, breaking down as well.
The next morning, you woke up with messy hair, smudged makeup, puffy eyes, and a terrible headache. You immediately took a painkiller before taking a long hot shower. You could barely remember anything that happened from last night.
After you dried your hair, you made your way downstairs. You were surprised to find XiaoJun at home. "Good morning," he said with a sad smile. "Slept well?"
"Uh, yeah," you answer awkwardly. He pats the space beside him on the couch, signalling you to sit down. You obey, curious as to why he suddenly wants to talk to you.
"Let's talk," he says, making you feel anxious. "Do you remember anything from last night?"
"No..." you say, feeling uneasy. "Why?"
He runs a hand through his hair. "Okay, how..." he takes a deep breath, "How long have you known?"
"Known what?" you ask stupidly before you realized what he meant. "Oh. Um, two weeks."Ā
"Why didn't you say anything about it?" he asked, trying to stay calm. He wasn't mad at you, but at himself.
"I was waiting for you to tell me," you say softly, looking away. "Why did you do it?"
He takes your hands in his. "Listen, baby," he starts. "I'm going to explain everything to you. Please, please, please, listen to me without interrupting. I... I know you don't deserve an asshole like me, but please just hear me out. I promise that I'm telling you the truth." You nod, wanting to know his side of the story as well.
"A month ago when I was out clubbing with the boys, she purposely fell on me. Of course, I caught her waist by reflex. She made someone take a picture of it, and from that angle it looks like as if we're making out. She threatened to send it to you if I didn't act like her boyfriend," he explained, "I didn't tell you because the picture really looks like something is happening and you wouldn't believe me. I'm so sorry, love. I know I fucked up and should've told you before. I hope you still love me."
Both of you had tears streaming down your faces. You wiped his tears before pulling him into a hug. "Of course I still love you so much, Dejun," you say, kissing the tip of his nose, instantly forgiving him. "Nothing can change that, I promise."
"I love you too, baby," he says happily, crashing his lips onto yours with a huge smile. Oh, how you both missed this!
