the allure of Grendel did inspire me to push myself through some of the early game grind, i saw a fat folk hero who vores the rich with his tummy mouth and is a beacon of prosperity and i had to have him immediately.
i actually recommend that for anyone who wants to play. collecting and making the frames is really satisfying. gives you a fun goal to work towards.

in warframe one of factions are the Solaris, a caste kept in eternal debt bound servitude in a prison labor colony. they all have bulky, almost androgynous armor plated chests and you’ll find out why later. (not what this post is about.)

genetically engineered slave race is one of my favorite sci fi horror staples. read mountains of madness as a teen and I latched onto the shoggoths so hard, they’re so sad. outliving the empire built on their labor, locked away in the Antarctic cold, never intended to be sapient. they’re living multitools. there’s this part of Dark Corners Of The Earth where you fight one that's contorted into the tight hallways of a gold refinery and it’s so pitiable. it’s so big it can’t really…get you. it’s just flailing and stuck and worst of all it’s enslaved to a new master.
Warframe’s grineer and solaris explore similar themes with a distinct focus on disability and I’m really chewing on it. Chomp chomp.
