I eased down deeper into my blankets as Jackson flew back and forth in front of me. I watched with tired eyes as he sprinted from one side of the room to the other, grabbing various items and bringing them to me. So far I had received four more blankets, a box of tissues, the waste paper basket, my laptop, and a stuffed bear I hadn’t even known existed since I was seven.
After a few more moments of searching the room, Jackson paused, finally looking at my weakened frame in the bed. “Can I give you a massage?” he asked, his face brightening at his own idea.
“I’m fine, thanks babe,” I said, giving him a small smile.
He nodded, furrowing his brows. “Well...should I go to the store and get you more medicines? I’m sure they have some vitamins that might make you feel better.”
I looked to my bedside table and took note of nearly the whole pharmacy’s inventory Jackson had arrived with. “I think you got it all,” I chuckled, motioning to nearly every vitamin I knew existed.
“How about an organic tea?” he nodded, beginning to walk out of the room.
“Jackson, my love, I’ve drank three cups already,” I sighed, motioning to my opposite bedside table covered in ceramic mugs.
“Right,” Jackson whispered, nodding to himself. He shuffled back over towards my bed and sat on the corner, setting a hesitant hand on my legs and beginning to rub them gently. “How are you feeling?”
“Rough,” I groaned, shutting my eyes. Jackson’s callused fingers felt wonderful on my warm skin. Maybe I should let him give me a massage.
I opened my mouth to speak again just as Jacksons shoved a thermometer under my tongue. I hummed at the sudden intrusion as the thermometer beeped happily as my temperature grew.
“Aish, babygirl,” Jackson clucked, pulling the blaring thermometer from my mouth. “Your fever still hasn’t broke.”
“That’s funny,” I nodded, snuggling into my pillow. “It hasn’t changed in the whole five minutes since the last time you took it?”
Jackson began to pout as he took his hand from my legs and crossed his arms. “Let me take care of you!”
“Jackson-ah!” I chuckled, shaking my head. “You are taking care of me, just by being here and making sure I have everything I need.”
“Ugh,” he grumbled, standing and stomping from the room. I heard him enter the kitchen and begin to pace around. I strained to hear as I heard a distant ringing noise.
“Hello?” his phone blared on speaker.
“Yeah, hyung,” Jackson said quickly. “What should I do to make Y/N feel better?”
“Leave her alone probably,” Jaebum’s voice came over with a laugh.
“Yaaaah, hyung,” groaned. “Seriously! Y/N is really ill and I want to help her, but I don’t know what else I can do!”
“I don’t know,” Jaebum grumbled. “Make her soup or something?”
“Soup! Food! Food is a good idea! She hasn’t ate anything since I’ve gotten here!” he gasped.
“Well when did you get there?” JB asked.
“Well...about an hour ago,” Jackson trailed.
“Maybe you should ask her if she’s hungry before-” Jaebum began but was instantly cut off by his dongsaeng.
“Thanks hyung! I appreciate it!” Jackson hung up with JB and I immediately heard the phone begin to ring again.
“Hello?” a slightly aggravated voice came over the line.
“Jinyoung-ah!” Jackson screeched into the phone. “I need your help.”
“Jackson, I thought you were taking care of Y/N today?” Jinyoung sighed.
“I am, that’s why I need your help!” Jackson said. I saw his frame begin to pace again in the distance. “How do I make that soup you make us when we’re ill?”
“...the instant ramen?” Jinyoung said, his voice numb of emotion. “I take the package, put it in the boiling water...and wait for the noodles to cook.”
“Do you take the packaging off first?” Jackson asked. He leaned over the counter and looked as if he were taking notes on one of my post-its. “Can I put cheese on it?”
“Should I even humor you with answers to those questions?” Jinyoung sighed over the line.
“JInyoung-ah! She’s ill! I have to help her!” Jackson yelled desperately into the phone.
“Can Y/N hear you? Can she hear me? I’m sorry he’s embarrassing himself,” JInyoung chuckled.
“It’s okay Jinyoungie,” I called from the bedroom, my throat hardly carrying from the soreness. “I’m used to it.”
Jinyoung erupted into a fit of laughter on the opposite side of the phone and Jackson sighed. “I’ll talk to you later Junior.”
“Aish, did you just-” Jinyoung began, but Jackson had already hung up.
“Oooo, he’s going to poison your dinner!” I cackled, a cough catching near the end and ripping through my chest.
Jackson appeared in my doorway with an unamused expression. “Are you even hungry, Y/N?”
“Not particularly,” I sighed. “I’m not sure if I have it in me to stomach noodles either.”
Jackson nodded, entered the bedroom, and leaned against the mattress. He slithered beneath the sheets and curled beside me. He placed gentle kisses on my shoulder and looked at me through his lashes. “I just wanted to take care of you...”
“Hey,” I cooed, placing a light kiss on his forehead. “I couldn’t ask for a better nurse. You’ve done everything.”
“Really?” He gushed, his demeanor changing almost immediately.
“Really really,” I nodded.
“So I did well?” he smiled.
“Of course,” I said, his smile contagious even while I was ill.
“Tell me,” he said, closing his eyes, waiting.
I sighed, biting back a laugh. “You do so well taking care of me and you look incredibly handsome while doing it.”
“Mmm...I liked the last part,” Jackson hummed, nuzzling into my shoulder.
“Why don’t we watch some tv?” I sighed, reaching for the remote. Jackson’s eyes flew open as he pulled the remote from my palm and began to navigate to one of the streaming services I had.
“You know Dream Knight is on Netflix now,” Jackson chirped. “And Roommate is on Hulu. RealGot7 is on Netflix now too...which do you want to watch?”
I shook my head, looking at the completely obnoxious man I was so in love with. “How about EXO next door?”
“Frankly I am appalled and shocked by how deeply you wish to hurt me,” Jackson sighed, shaking his head. “But I think it’s the fever talking. Roommate it is.”
