Mixed materials-Headpiece for final design

The idea for the piece is to make it an installation piece and to express a message. The idea for this piece is to add stamps and then add poetry on the face like seen in the sketchbook!

I’m also looking to add a letter I have written and I’m going to burn the letter and film that for this and whatever is left I will then add that to the mask as a way of expressing my emotions and then also going have lighting behind the mask eliminating the words and mounted onto the wall as a piece that can be interactive with the space.

Serene Yet Screwed aka Sort of Serene

When I was in an exhibit at a private school in Atlanta called A Touchable Exhibit I delivered a couple of pedestal pieces (a limestone rabbit and an abstract textural piece). As I was getting them out of the back of the truck the curator of the exhibit saw one of my unfinished bronze lip sculptures in the truck and asked if I could leave it too. I protested that the piece was not done - I had cut-off all the 'plumbing' that is used in the casting, but the bronze was just as it had come from the mold: sort of brown — like an old penny.

It was to be a wall piece but had none of the hardware added to make it hang

. . . she said she had an empty pedestal on which it could be laid-down flat . . . so I said OK and left it. In four weeks or whenever the show was to come down I arrived to pick-up my work and the curator said she had to tell me a story:

She said when three or four of the third-grade classes came in to view and touch the works the teachers told them to go and explore the works in the gallery. The teachers stood by the door of the gallery and chatted with each other until one of them noticed something going on and pointed it out to the others. The children had lined-up single file and were taking turns kissing the bronze lips. Some of them got back in line after their first kiss for another. The lips were now kiss-polished bright and shiny by numerous 8 year-old-lips.

Later, to finish the piece all I did was to drill for four brass screws in the corners so it could hang on the wall — pretty much like it looked after the kids had polished it.
