I guess this is where I'm comfortable posting art, so I guess I am a post it here. And, I feel like I should explain what's going on here.

So, I keep it on the low on "main", but I actually have a fursona, and up until ... really recently that 'sona was a goat (see first attached picture). I say recently, because last week my partner and a VRC acquaintance made an off-the-cuff shitpost suggestion as a drawing cue. The cue resulted in a small crisis for me and to cut the story short, my 'sona now is a roo. Cue getting stuck in drawing, because reasons (see 2nd attached image). Third image is my sona in the cab door of XA 1408 "Wolmeri", having a drink from her water bag (the assumed season is summer then).

So, I'm a details-oriented girl, let's talk details of things.

First picture, my original sona's reference sheet:

Pins and badges shown as blobs on the character (but detailed one the upper of the sheet): Half are pins I own, half are my own creations that I desperately want to manifest ("the Good Pupper", "Amtrans", etc). I also am likely to add to the pool of these.

The hat is a hat I actually have, with the actual pins that are in it. (The locomotive is a W class - not The Scotsman)

Rationale behind the main colour choices are 1) Flat White Coffee 2) a pastel-ish, softer take on the usual Cotton wash colours for the overalls

Picture the Second

Actually, started as an exercise testing out some new pen brushes I'd collected for CSP.

I wanted to carry across the general vibe of the previous sona, but I'd throw in some more tones.

The breed I went with as a guide for colours and features was the Western Grey (because Oh my GOD, we get it, you live on the West Coast, you vape etc), so there's the lighter tones on the outer limbs and inner torso, there's this dark hint where the fur more in profile or clumped, dark brown extremities.

character is still slightly overscale for the engine, even after correcting it for my paper sketch.

I was originally going to halftone this, but eventually felt that I liked it colourised more- hence the more simplistic lighting to it.

Why'd I use two different methods of colouring? IDK Vibes I guess.

So I didn't know this at the time of drawing, but looking around the Rail Heritage WA archives later, I discovered that XA 1408 pulled the last The Kalgoorlie service, and one of the messages on the nose wishing it farewell: "Down the Kangas" (see pic 4). Neat happenstance (also, Good Pupper spotted). Small micro-tangents for context - "The Kalgoorlie" was the east-bound express service to Kalgoorlie-Boulder for the duration that the line was narrow gauge, "The Westlander" being westbound. When the line was converted to Standard gauge (completing the Trans-Australian Railway,) the services were retired in favour of The Prospector. The second micro-tangent- "the Kangas" is referring to the Kalgoorlie City Football Club - The Mighty Roos. This'd be Aussie Rules Football we're talking about- WA Country League.

Summer Afternoon Crew Change

Sometimes I just want to draw, y'know.. because I can? Because it's something I take personal joy in? Wanted to get more comfortable doing more drawing again, because it's been a while since I did that much of it, especially a long time since I've done proper scene integration stuff.  Drawing's based off a photograph from the Weston Langford collection, taken 5pm December 31, 1965.  Last Perth-bound Local passenger service over the Eastern Railway line.
