you let your head rest on the cold surface of the library desk. “im just gonna do this tomorrow..” you mumble.

armin looks on at your hopeless, slumped state across from him and he takes a deep sigh. he knows you have the potential to finish all of your work with ease if you actually put in the effort.

he adjusts his glasses, clearing his throat before he speaks, “here, I have something for you.” 

you peek your head up in curiosity, expecting some answers or possibly some snacks to take your mind off of things. to your disappointment, armin pulls some flashcards from out of his backpack.

your brows furrow and you let out an exasperated sound. “please not again.” 

“yes, again.” he dismisses, being used to your usual behavior. he holds the cards close to him so that you’re not tempted to read the opposite side of them. 

“okay.. who was hirohito?” he asks, looking up from the card.

your usually rampant brain goes blank. you really need to pay attention in class more. “uhm..” you drag out under your breath, squinting at the ceiling as if it’ll give you the answer. 

“come on, you know this one. we spent, like, two weeks in class talking about him.” armin stares at you in anticipation of your answer.

you blink a few times, desperately racking your brain. nothing. you shake your head, “I don’t know, it’s not ringing any bells.” 

he flips the card around to read ‘emperor of japan in 1926.’

you raise your eyebrows in acknowledgment, “oh yeaahh, I remember now!” you say, unconvincingly. 

armin lets a hand travel up to his head to massage his temples. “he was emperor from 1926 to 1989. it’s interesting; he had the longest reign in the entirety of japan’s imperial history. he seems to be very controversial though…” 

a smile forms on his face, contagiously enough for you to do the same. the truth is, you did know the answer. you just needed an excuse to get armin to rant about whatever nerdy stuff he was into. 

the way he seemed so passionate about everything was your favorite thing about him. it was enough to get your heart to race. however, his facts were flying right over your head. 

he waves a hand in front of your face, attempting to get your attention. “are you listening?”

“oh sorry, you were saying?” you smile cheekily, letting your head rest in your hand.
