The Dinner Party is a table set for 39 female guests of honor. Each place setting has a unique plate with vulvar form imagery, an embroidered runner executed in a style appropriate to the individual being honored, as well as handmade cutlery and a chalice. The Primordial Goddess setting, the first in Judy Chicago’s iconic artwork, celebrates female creator gods of the Paleolithic. On this theme, the coil around the letter “P” on the calfskin runner represents early baskets and pottery made by women.

Ariana Grande - God is a woman
As she developed her career in the 1960s and 1970s against the backdrop of a male-dominated art world, Judy Chicago defined her visual language, applying Minimalist forms and saturated colors to feminist subjects. One of Chicago’s favored motifs for exploring female identity in a patriarchal culture evolved in this pre-Dinner Party era: the strong central core that appears in both her abstracted works and her more overtly vulvar forms.
