Can you change the virtual NIC type after building a VM?
When building a VM, you can select which virtual device type you would like a vNIC to be (E1000, VMXNET3, etc).
After the VM is created, can you change the type of vNIC in use on a given connection (eg from E1000 to VMXNET3)?
If so, how?

Test Connections from an ESXi Host Using vmkping

Re-adding virtual ethernet adapter in AIX
recently, i had to make some changes to the virtual switch of en0 on a particular LPAR we had in our work environment for some testing. but unlike cpu or memory, it wasn't something that could be changed dynamically so we had to do it stages :
removal:
# ifconfig en0 down # ifconfig en0 detach # rmdev -dRl ent0 # shutdown -F
adding:
change the LPAR profile on the HMC by removing and ethernet adapter and recreating on with your desired settings (in my case, a different vswitch) start the LPAR on the new profile and console in
# smit tcpip --> Minimum Configuration & Startup --> en0
put in the ip and netmask (should be the same as before)
verify settings:
# entstat -d ent0
