OK it's only 10 seconds long but this buzzard was out by my stand of voodoo lilies for like 5 min trying to find a dead body to nom on being so confused (voodoo lilies give off a carrion scent) pmuch the most hilarious thing I have seen in a while #nature #birds #buzzard #lily #voodoolily
Thought it was time for me to share screenies of my two favorite plants.
It doesn’t look like much right now, but someday this will become a Dracula voodoo lily! 🧛♂️🪴 Swipe to the right to see the mature plants in bloom on the original Etsy listing I purchased this bulb from. #voodoolily #hellobeastie #corpseflower (at Orfordville, Wisconsin) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cgb-KypLsYL/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

“Voodoo Lily” by kait matthews
Beautiful to behold but hold your breath
Would you like to get close to this lovely? Arm yourself with a clothes peg before doing so. Why? Known as the Queen of the Underworld, and commonly called Voodoo Lily, it is also called by its other not-so-regal names: Devil’s Tongue, Dead Horse Lily, Corpse Lily and Carrion Lily. Corpse Lily? Yes, this exotic emits odors of death! So much so, bees avoid it, and flies adore it. In search of a meal, insects that are normally attracted to dead animals are drawn to the horrific smell. Instead of a feast, flies, for example, benefit the plant by helping it pollinate, going even so far as to lay eggs in hopes their offspring (maggots anyone?) will be able to feed from the pseudo rotting meat. Yikes!! But fear not. The smell only last for a couple of days and yes, the tube of this beauty is quite edible. May I suggest a good washing before doing so? . . #flowerartwork #voodoolily #corpselily #women_illustrators #bookcoverillustration #illustrationartists #beautifulbizarremagazine #beautifulbizarre #imaginefx #imaginefxmagazine #floweroracle #book_cover_artists_marketplace #womenofillustration #illustration_daily #illustration_the_best #digitalartistsoninstagram #flowerportrait https://www.instagram.com/p/CMNAdZsnE21/?igshid=170yfrkiq59ou
