Please, if I may know your perspective: Is disliking shippers of a certain of ship as a whole any different than disliking a fandom of a thing as a whole? Because it seems to me most shippers see it as two different things, but to me, in most cases, seems like basically the same deal. You shouldn't be a jerk to them just cause they like something, don't assume they are all like the worst members, but if you feel like they have tendency to act like dumb jerks, not much wrong in pointing it out. And obvs, there are and shippers of something you find offensive or morally abhorent, in which I don't think shippers should get anymore benefit of the doubt than the fans. Am I making any sense?

yeah i see what you're saying and no i don't think it's different. fans of a ship can really be considered mini-fandoms or sub-fandoms of their own in a lot of cases. like you said you shouldnt really be jerks to people but just like fandoms there are certainly ships where if i see someone is really into it my brain does this

and imo its usually even stronger for me for ships than general fandoms, if i think a piece of media is shit but i see someone likes it i could still make a case for them acknowledging the reasons i think it's shit but finding other redeeming qualities in it, but there are certain ships for things i really like where i'm just like. in order for this to be at all appealing to you you have to view the canon in a fundamentally different way than i do and i think you are very incorrect actually.

but in general people get way too up in arms about shipping being like. an Enlightened way to engage with media and therefore can't be criticized.
