I am a Fire Demon, a demon with the power of fire. I knew the other elements as well but Fire always came out so easily, it was good and bad. Good because my passion never burned out, I was always fueled by my element. Bad because I can and have destroyed everything when I’ve been mad. I describe it as seeing red because Fire consumes me, I become Fire and I see nothing. Fire Demons are notorious for being ill tempered and are often tip toed around, but one human didn’t tip toe around me. He understood what my element could do but he didn’t treat me like a monster. Jung Taekwoon or Leo, he actually kept me calm. People called him mean because of his stoic face and silence but he was the opposite; he loved animals and children, he gets embarrassed easily and is genuinely adorable. 

Normally I worked well with other Demons, from Fire to other elements. But recently our community of Demons got another addition. His name was Damien and he was a Fire Demon like me, but he thought he was better than everyone else. He often showed off his power, abusing it in a way; using it as if it was a toy for entertainment. For some reason he wanted to one up me, and only me. He never challenged anybody else and it was really starting to piss me off. As he kept going I noticed that my vision would falter and I would see flashes of red, I knew from books that only powerful Fire Demons got red vision with any type of anger. I blame my family because I came from a pure bloodline while Damien was half and got lucky. 

Today I got special permission to show Leo our little community and I was excited. He already knew everything there was to know and that’s because we’ve been dating for around 4 months. I always vented to Leo about Damien, and that’s what kept the red away. I hoped Damien wouldn’t be bad today because I didn’t want Leo to see me with red vision...it was not a pretty sight. People greeted Leo and he could see how each of the Demons had certain features, hair, and eye colors. Taekwoon somehow fit in well with the Death Demons and those who didn’t know who he was greeted him. 

“This is a good sign, people think you’re one of our kind. That means you’ll be respected and maybe even be taught by someone if you wanted to learn” I lean over and whisper to him

“If I do, you’ll be the one to teach me” he replies quietly and I chuckle. We were peacefully walking around until I heard it...that annoying voice that belonged to Damien. He was calling my name and kept getting closer and closer. I stiffened and felt a small flame swell up inside me. 

“Don’t let him get to you, he only does it because you keep reacting to him” Leo says and I nod. I can’t show a response, I need to keep the red away. 

“Y/N” Damien drew out, almost right behind us. I turned around and there he was

“A little birdy told me that you were bringing you boo in and I had to meet him” Damien says in an overly friendly tone. Leo gave Damien his normal unphased face and muttered a hello. 

“He could be a Death Demon ya know..he has that brooding feel to him” Damien criticizes. He doesn’t like the Death Demons for some reason. I felt the flame grow slightly bigger at the insult because he didn’t know Leo..they always based him on the outside. 

“He’s more respected than you are, and he’s not even a Demon” I retort, suddenly itching for a fight. Leo puts a hand on my shoulder, not bothered by the heat radiating from me. Luckily the heat or flames don’t hurt him because he never stirs my anger. 

“What’s the matter? I was complimenting him” Damien states innocently and I try to remember what Leo said. 

“Just let it be for today, I’m trying to show him around peacefully and you’re ruining it for me” I reply monotonously. The Water Demons were normally nosy so a few of them stopped to see what would happen, you also want them around because they have the only water that can stop a Fire Demon. 

“You want to know why I pick on you? It’s because I hat you, I hate that you came from a pure blood line and I only get a half ass power. I hate that you’re the one people think of when they hear Fire Demon. I hate how unstable you can be but found someone who can tolerate you” he explains and I look him straight in the eye

“You’re stupid. You should be greatfull that you got any power at all, and you don’t want full power because it’s a terrible burden. And they think of me because I made a name out of our element, I’m not a bitchy little twat that tries to be better than what they are” I say and that seemed to set him off. The heat he emitted was weak but it was still heat and I could tell it was reaching Leo

‘Oh hell no, he is not going to hurt him!’ I think and stand in front of Leo, blocking all of the heat. The flame sparked and I began burning a bit, I felt the flames on my hands and little spots of red began to appear

“Never, NEVER threaten him or I will end you” I growl out, more red swirling across my vision. Damien’s own hands caught fire but they weren’t as hot or as bright as mine

“What if I want to? What if I want you to go full red so he can see what a monster Fire Demons can be” Damien prods

“Y/N” Leo whispers, trying to step closer but my friend who’s a Water Demon stops him and stands in front of him. 

“He needs to learn what will happen if he messes with a high power” she murmurs. 

“Don’t do this, we’ve all seen videos of what full red can do” I warn but Damien shakes his head furiously. Then something strange happens, his flames start turning black. It seems he has some Death power. Tiny black tendrils appear which shows that his Death powers are weak but Death powers can still be bad in tiny doses. The tendrils slither on the ground, trying to glide past me and get to Leo who was now protected by a Death and Life Demon. I send a fireball down and the tendrils recoil at the heat

“I just told you NOT to threaten him” I growled again, taking a step closer. My vision was almost all the way red and I know that by now my normal eye color was a burning Scarlet color. I kept stepping closer, enjoying the fear Damien emitted every time he took a step back. 

“What’s the matter? Can’t handle the heat?” I taunt, flames slowly crawling up my arms and legs. The temperature was rising as the fire burned more and more. 

“S..stop” Damien stammers and I fling a fire ball at him

“Why? You wanted this! You wanted to know what it’s like and here it is! Now look at you! Cowering in a corner because you can’t handle what you wanted” I exclaim, voice slowly distorting. When you go red your voice can distort and you have an undying urge to destroy everything. You want people to suffer and cower in fear, right now Damien was giving me that. I flung another fireball at him and laughed as he flinched

“Y/N..don’t go too far” my water friend warns and I turn around, tilting my head at her. Damien took this opportunity to send more tendrils to me, these were a bit stronger as they were mixed with his fire power. I turn my attention back to him and set my whole body ablaze, burning the tendrils

“Now that was a stupid move” I chuckle. I heard a few Water Demons get ready just in case they needed to put me out but I smirked sinisterly

“Have you learned your lesson? Is your curiosity and hatred quenched?!” I question, turning towards him fully. I can see him wanting to continue but I step closer and make my temperature go up even more

“Well?” I state, tilting my head and Damien nods his head

“I’m sorry..the heat is too much, please stop” he mutters and I step closer

“I didn’t hear that, say it again” I demand, taking another step. 

“I said I’m sorry! I don’t want to deal with you like this!” he yells and I grin like the Cheshire cat

“Now that’s what I want to hear” I say and the flames slowly start to cool and go away. My friend deflates with a loud sigh and I laugh

“Come on..I’m not that stupid. I wouldn’t have done anything bad, just sending a message” I state, completely normal now. I turn back to Leo and smile

“Now you know what going red looks like”

4th of July was a typical American holiday but it was full of joy and wonder. The fireworks lighting up the night sky, where you get eaten by mosquitoes and will probably witness a drunken fight. One of the most cheesy things to do is confess to someone as the fireworks light up the sky. 

Today was 4th of July and I had managed to rope my friend and crush Leo into going with me to see the fireworks. Of course the other 5 had to come along because I’m friends with them as well. We all spent the daytime hanging out, walking around looking at random things. The fireworks didn’t normally start until 9 o’clock so we decided to part for the next few hours and then they would pick me up again. Inside I wanted to plan my outfit because I wanted to do the cheesy thing of confess to Leo and wanted to look nice when I did it. I needed to pick something comfortable, warm, and cute. I went through my closet, trying to pair a bunch of clothes together but nothing look right. Finally, I found a cute maroon sweater shoved in the back of my closet so I decided to pair it with some dark jeans and black boots. Looking ready enough I got something to drink and turned on the tv to pass the time but I ended up browsing Tumblr and lost track of time. I only realized when my phone chimed with a message

‘We’re outside!’ Ken sent the message so I turned the tv off and locked my front door and made it outside. There were two cars and I went to the one less filled and guess what..those trolls made it so that I had to sit with Leo in the back. He didn’t seem too happy about that since Ken was sitting peacefully in the front with N driving. I muttered a small hello, nervousness taking over me as I tried to sit as close to the door as possible. Then I realized that it probably seemed rude and I sighed inwardly. Before I was able to put my seat belt on N pulled out and took a sharp turn so that I fell sideways..directly onto Leo’s lap. 

“Sorry!” I squeak out and sit up so I can put my seat belt on. I glared at N in the mirror and he just looked back at me innocently. Ken was laughing loudly so I whacked him on the shoulder followed by Leo trying to get up and fake strangle N. The rest of the drive was pretty normal and we managed to make it at a good time, there were a lot of people but it wasn’t overcrowded. N found a decent spot and pulled in, the others following closely in another spot. We all got out and I greeted the others. The trunk was open so I went to grab the chair I always sit in when Leo grabbed it first along with his

“I’ll carry it” he says and I nod with a small blush. I could carry my own things but I’m not complaining. Ken bumps my shoulder with his and I playfully hit him, everyone else knew about my crush because Ken has a blabber mouth and told everyone the day he found out. Well except for Leo of course..or so I hope...

‘Oh no..does he already know?! What if he rejects me then??’ I think frantically and let out a small whine with my head down. Hongbin rubs my shoulder and we head off to find a spot. We ended up hitting the jackpot and got the best view, right out in the open with no trees in the way. Our setup was a bit weird because instead of sitting next to the others Leo set our chairs a bit behind them and pretty close together. I tried to keep my cool and sat down, letting the noise of other people take over. By now my mind was racing with so many thoughts of being rejected and a sick feeling made its way into my stomach

“Are you okay? You look a bit pale” Leo asks quietly and I nod my head weakly

“I’m fine” I respond and fiddle with my hands. Ken saves the day by turning around and dragging us into a conversation they were having about how big the fireworks would be. It lasted until there was an announcement that the fireworks would begin in a few minutes. As it got darker the wind began to pick up and I cursed at myself for not bringing a coat with me but I should be okay for now. Everyone grew silent as the announcement for the fireworks came on and the show began. It started out small and I sank into my chair so I could get a better view. It was always awe inducing how there were so many kinds of fireworks, my mouth was open and my eyes focused on the colors in the sky. I guess in all of my awe I forgot that the cold was picking up and a jacket was being tossed onto my lap. I tore my gaze away and looked at Leo who was watching the fireworks, I smile to myself and wrap the jacket over my shoulders and then go back to watching the fireworks. Once again I wasn’t paying attention and barely noticed when Leo scooted his chair closer to mine. I could tell that the finale was coming up because they started to burn of the same ones all at the same time. It slowly picked up and then it happened, they lit the giant ones on fire and the finale began. I felt a tap on my shoulder and forced myself to look away from the sky but I was met by Leo’s face really close to mine

“I like you” he states and my mind goes blank. 

Was this really happening?  

So I did the only rational thing I could think of

“I like you too” I blurted as the last firework went off. Everyone cheered and the rustling of chairs started as people began to pack up. Leo gave me one of his rare smiles and stood up so I followed. He folded his chair up and I folded mine up so he carried both on his left shoulder and held a hand out to me. I blushed heavily but took his hand and the others cheered

“Pay up” N demanded, holding his hand out. Ken and Ravi both gave N money

‘They made a bet?’ I thought and laughed out loud. We all went back to the cars, following the herds of people while making random conversations. Leo and I stayed back a bit and he asked

“How long?” so I gave him a weird look until I realized what he meant

“It’s been quite a while honestly, I just never knew how to tell you” I reply and glance at him from the side. He was looking at me completely and nodded in agreement

“I’ve liked you for a while as well but you always shied away from me so I wasn’t sure” he confessed and I groaned to which he responded with a chuckle. We finally make it to the car and then have to wait even longer to get an opportunity to pull out. I started to yawn and decided to test my luck by laying my head on Leo’s shoulder and he put an arm around me and I beamed at the back of the driver’s seat. Ken took a picture of us and sent it to everyone but I was too tired to stop him and Leo couldn’t move because I was on his side. 

It was a pretty good day..hooray for cheesy firework confessions
