🧱, 🧸, 📚 for your fellas from the muse ask game
YIPPEE ASK GAME TIME!! Going to do my two main OCs because if I did canon muses I'd be here a while.
[ 🧱 ] how would you describe your muses’ morality? what are their core values?
-Aeris: Aeris's grasp on morality is very black-and-white and troublingly dependent on following the rules that other people (that he respects) put down for him. I'd say that he's a good person at heart, and he wants desperately to be a good person, but he's very much a follow-the-leader sort of fellow, and his idea of morality is constructed entirely of what the people around him say it is. This isn't because he lacks a mind of his own, but is instead a byproduct of a lack of empathy + an inability to understand how to properly incorperate into society, leading to him mimicking others around him. He doesn't want to hurt people, he wants to help, but because most of the time the world outside the wilds is a very confusing place, he often ends up following others rather than his raw intuition. This is great if his mentors are good people! But it's also absolutely catastrophic if they aren't.
As for his core values- He'd say that his core values would be care and protection of Marcie, the Last City, and everyone within it at all costs. What he WON'T disclose, however, is the fact that his own curiosity/desire to understand the universe is just as strong as those values, and can sometimes eclipse it in very rare (or poor) circumstances. An Aeris with a question and a broken/slack leash is an Aeris who's going to wander off and get himself in trouble before long, with potentially fatal consequences.
-Marcie: Marcie's got a much stronger grasp on an actual moral code than Aeris does, and a much more human understanding of it as well. She's sternly cut from a 'do no harm take no shit' sort of cloth, but she's also not going to say no to bending or breaking those rules if need be to keep her loved ones safe. She's less likely than Aeris to do anything outright illegal, yes- and this is entirely because of the hunter/titan divide in thinking- but unlike Aeris, she's also quicker to come to more illegal lines of thinking than he would be- or that she'd like to admit. For example, if confronted with an unruly combatant who refuses to peacefully collaborate yet contains information necessary for her goals to progress, Marcie is much more likely to mentally jump to 'we need to torture the information out of them' as a solution much quicker than Aeris ever would, even if she'd never fully admit it. The difference between the two siblings is that Marcie would try a plethora of different options before she got to that point (unless she REALLY does not like the guy), whereas by the time Aeris comes to the conclusion that he needs to use torture, he'd already be at the point where he's completely fine acting on it.
Like...you know those fun tumblr blogs that you really enjoy following but who just CANNOT stop arguing with exclusionists and radfems with the passion of a thousand suns because they just can't let the bullshit they're spewing slide? Yeah. That's Marcie. She's also stubborn, proud, and unwilling to admit when she's wrong, which doesn't help matters. Aaaand she's also willing to buckle a bit if a very pretty lady is in the picture, which. Wouldn't we all, honestly.
Core values! Unlike Aeris, Marcie's core values extend past protection of the Last City to actual more fleshed-out, definable roles than just the very flat, nebulous role of 'protect the Last City (and the universe too ig)'. She sees being a guardian of the weak and vulnerable as her calling, yes, but her ACTUAL focus is on keeping her loved ones safe and healthy, and ensuring that as many people as possible can have that assurance too. Sure, she goes about that the same way a herding dog might (by worrying, nagging, and nipping where its needed), but I'd say keeping her family happy almost takes precedent over keeping the City safe. It's a very lucky thing that these two values go hand-in-hand
[ 🧸 ] does your muse keep anything sentimental? if so, what do they keep and why?
-Aeris: Aeris isn't one for keeping many possessions outside of weapons, but the ones he has are oftentimes extremely important to him. Most anything that Marcie or Eido give to him, for example, is deeply treasured because those are gifts from his little sisters, and it makes him feel loved. Likewise, anything that Misraaks gives him relating to House Light (like his bannercloth cape, or the pair of shock daggers he wears on his hip) is treated much more seriously because to him, that's a token of acceptance/a mark of his place in the world, and he does not take that sort of thing lightly. Outside of that, though, he's got his favorite weapons and that's it. Pre-first death, he had a little stuffed rabbit that meant the world to him, but his father took that from him when he was a preteen to get him to 'man up,' so it was gone for quite some time before he died.
Oh, wait, I nearly forgot- he's also got a necklace made out of Taniks's teeth that he wears pretty much wherever he goes. Do with that what you will.
-Marcie: Marcie LOOOVES cute little knick-knacks and memoirs of her travels- if you ever go to her and Aeris's shared apartment, you'll find that everything outside of his room is almost exclusively full of decorations and keepsakes that she put on display. She's got bookshelves just COVERED with all sorts of gifts that she's collected over the years of being a guardian/major Crucible fighter, several medals, little bits and bobs and pretty things that she found on her travels, gifts from Archie, etc. She tends to keep work life and home life somewhat separated, but she's also named a good chunk of her favorite guns, and hangs them up on the wall when they need to be retired, often with little plaques underneath detailing their names, their makes/models, and how long they've been in service. The Ace of Spades is the most treasured of these guns, as it technically belongs to her (she was the one who was actually close to Cayde; Aeris never got a grasp on his mannerisms and was thus leery of him even if Cayde genuinely liked him), but it's the only one out of her collection not displayed because it does more good work in Aeris's hands than hers. Crucible fighter or not, she's not as good with handcannons as Aeris is.
Her most prized possession, however, is the little half-rotten pocket journal that she and Aeris were rezzed with. It's the only remnant of their past life that either of them have, and even if it has barely anything of value in it from the few journal entries that survived the many years between their deaths and their resurrection, (just their names, the fact that they're siblings, and that their father was a whore and a scoundrel, according to previous Marcie's long-winded complaints), it's still something irreplaceable that she treasures deeply. She had it preserved via Cryptarchy technology and keeps the original copy in a double-bound plastic bookkeeper locked away in a Golden Age safe. This seems like it would be overkill, but it was in fact an insightful precaution, as that was the only way that it survived the Red War.
[ 📚 ] what books does your muse have on their bookshelf? what books would they like to have? if your muse isn’t an avid reader, is there anything they collect or might like to collect?
-Aeris: Aeris isn't much of a reader post-rez, though he was before he became a Guardian. When he did read, however, his bookshelves were full of survival manuals, how-to guides, odd fact books, and surgical/medical textbooks, with an emphasis on the anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics of living organisms. You know those big, glossy books with the detailed pictures and illustrations on every page, crammed in with some of the tiniest text known to man? Yeah. A huge part of this was because he was training to become a surgeon before everything went south, but it's also just because he is the very definition of 'curiosity killed the cat.' It's just that now that he's capable of coming back, he's got no need for textbooks.
Now, he just collects survival gear, guns, and various odd bits and bobs that he brings back on his travels, oftentimes entirely by accident. He doesn't really live in his apartment much, so it's just kind of become a dumping ground for all of his extra gear or trophies that he can't keep on his jumpship (which is much more organized on account of him never really moving out of it when he got an apartment proper). Like I said, he's a fellow of few possessions most of the time, but because he often comes up with things he needs on the fly, he's usually got quite a bit of random shit just lying around his room that he's going to use or trade for something or the other, like various bits of bones, hide, and scrap metal he scavenged while hunting in between missions, as well as the usual odd guardian tech strewn about in there.
-Marcie: Marcie's a big fan of reading during her downtime in the classic old-fashioned style, using actual paper books rather than her datapad (easier on her hands and eyes). Unlike Aeris, however, her bookshelf is comprised mainly of fluffy, fun fantasy stories, with the occasional abandoned craft book loitering around somewhere in the midst of all of it. She tends to like either things like Pern or the Inheritance Cycle (where the main character is bonded to a companion who sticks by them thick or thin), or REALLY bad pulp fiction erotica romance novels. Typically with werewolves in them. Actually, a lot with werewolves in them. This girl unironically has actual published A/B/O novels on her bookshelf, and they're one of her favorite things to read when she wants to wind down. Anything soft, cheesy, and full of lesbians/general pretty women getting swept off their feet into a loving, romantic relationship is her thing.
I've already gone over what she likes to collect, but mementos are a big thing! She likes anything that she can keep as a memory of someone she's met, much like how Saint holds on to all of his ribbons (she was inspired by him to do that, actually). The walls of her apartment and her many bookshelves are just crammed full with carefully-placed knick-knacks and memorabilia- a sharp contrast to her closets and her jumpship, which are both absolute disasters on account of them being the places where she just shoves everything she actually needs, but doesn't want to deal with at the moment.
