(contd) you didn’t mention this & i wondered if it ever came up anywhere, but maybe roberta rejected connection with her kids to reinforce her narrative of being intersex. an intersex person being infertile was incompatible with her presentation of her life story- occam’s razor thus suggests that her kids were not biologically hers. i don’t think that there was literature to support this during her publication of her story but she may have wanted to push that view?
Thanks for this message and the info on Ewan Forbes. I haven’t read much about him, but everything I’ve read says he was intersex - it would be interesting to know if this was the case, or if was, like with Roberta, a claim he made to aid his transition. An interesting topic for further research!
A good point as well about why Roberta might have distanced herself from her kids. It’s not something we mentioned, but it’s absolutely a possibility, and very likely did influence her decision. Hope that helps!
