Day 2: write about what you love about your path.

Well, this one is a little tough. My path is still vague, but as someone who is very likely devoting themself to Artemis and Hestia, it involves a lot of things I already love, which is kind of the way it should work. I'm a hunter, and I love to bring people together, and who does that better than the moon and hearth themselves? I'm mostly a kitchen witch, and kind of a nature witch, so it makes sense that my path would take me this way.

I love walks in the woods, I really enjoy hunting, and I dedicated my last hunt to the land it was killed on as a way of blessing it for the next year. I try my best to be good about the age of my kill (I try for 3 yes and up, this time I wasn't so lucky) and I never take a doe who is still taking care of the little ones.

My home isn't very... Homey, I don't have a real hearth to speak of, but I love to cook and to talk to people, and while I'm an introvert, I do enjoy quiet company. I love the way stories and fun can bring people together. I love telling my stories to the goddesses, and I love that the encourage my growth as a person, as a hunter, and as a homemaker.

I just really love my craft, there are a lot of tea spells, outdoor offerings, and prayers. While I love winter and the cold, I'm excited that Spring is on the way, because it means more of these.

Day 11: Create a spell.

So, this is a spell that’s been brewing in my mind for a while. This is a pretty good time to write it down.

Replenishing your spoons

This spell is inspired by the video game Zelda. While thinking of a way to replenish my spoons, video games immediately came to mind. What do you do in Zelda when you’re about to die/pass out? You get yourself some hearts! (Mainly by throwing things, or cutting grass, but that won’t work in real life). 

You will need:

a silicone heart mold

red candy melts

chocolate candy melts (I use milk chocolate, but whichever you prefer)

Chili powder

Melt the red candy melts in a double boiler. Once you have the consistency you like, pour a little in the heart molds, just to cover the sides. Flip upside down and drip on a rack to remove the excess. Pop them in the freezer until they solidify (about 15 minutes). Next, melt your chocolate, also over a double boiler. BE VERY CARFUL. Chocolate is very easy to mess up. Keep that heat very low and stir. Once it’s sufficiently melted, add your chili powder. You can subsitute the chili powder for whatever you want, as long as it gives your chocolate a kick (peppermint oil, cinnamon, etc). When you finally pour them into the molds, make sure to leave some space to top up the red candy melts, so your heart have a nice solid base. Again, pop into the freezer until solid! While they are solidifying, concentrate on the effect these hearts are going to have on your body. Envision them filling with happy, fulfilling energy, ready to bring you a good, energy-filled day!  You can make yourself a hot cocoa with these, or simply eat just like that. Enjoy!

When you eat them, whether in a hot cocoa or alone, make sure to bring back those fulfilling thoughts you put into them while they were solidifying.

30 Days of Witchcraft | Day 1

I've been thinking about doing this for some time now. The day has finally come, as I realized that I should just do whatever feels right for me. I'm usually a mess that doesn't finish anything, but this time I really want to. I need to show myself that I can. One step at a time.

So here it begins.

Day 1: Write a short post about how you got into witchcraft.

Witchcraft has been present in my life since I can remember. I grew up in the north of Spain, in the Basque Country. Witches are constantly present in our culture and mythology, as they are in other autonomous communities of the north. We have kids songs about witches (or "sorginak" as we say it), we have lots and lots of stories talking about their gatherings on friday nights ("akelarre"), and people even used to fix Carlina acaulis ("eguzki-lore") in their doors to prevent them from entering the house. Because most of the time, witches were seen as evil.

I never saw them that way.

As a kid, I used to spend hours making potions with soap, perfumes, plants... whatever I could find, really. Later on, I started making my own animal-shaped pendants, as I believed that everyone had a spirit animal looking after them, changing form as the person grew. They were terrible (because I was just a kid when I made them), but still they meant a big deal for me. I felt safer. The ones I remember the most are the lion (I'm a Leo), the bear and the owl. That last one was actually a pendant that my mother gave to me as a present, and I still keep it.

I still remember my first visit to the Oma Forest like it was the best day ever.

I never really stopped reading about witches, feeling like it was a part of me that I could never ignore. I just researched and learnt quietly. Until I found a whole community on Tumblr that feels so welcoming and supporting. Now I feel less alone.
