Industrially ๐ญ, it is produced from ethylene and acetic acid with oxygen ๐จ in the presence of a palladium catalyst. Most of it is used as a precursor to polyvinyl acetate (PVA), an important commercial polymer. PVA is the main adhesive found in โwhite glueโ, which is used for porous materials like wood ๐ณ, paper ๐ and cloth ๐. This glue is also used for wallpapers, envelopes and handicrafts. Vinyl acetate can also be combined with other monomers to prepare co-polymers like ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), which is used in hot glue sticks, and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), which is used in batteries ๐, hair gels and inks ๐.
