For thy starving askbox: what song got you into gonst?
Okay so getting into Ghost was a deliberate experiment. I noticed that my friends on discord all had wildly different music tastes than me, and were downright obsessed with three bands in particular: Twenty One Pilots, Sleep Token, and Ghost. I steadfastly ignored Ghost for a few years because everyone was SO feral about it I got a case of the hype aversion you know? TOP and ST were more recent trends amongst my young peers.
So one day I had that "Am I wrong or is it the children who are wrong?" Simpsons meme moment and decided I'd take a sampling of said bands. I'd search on youtube and listen to the first three songs recommended by my algorithm that day. Because of the timing, the It's a Sin cover had literally just dropped - and I preexistingly love that song.
TOP and ST were a wash. TOP is just not my genre. And I do not enjoy the vocal stylings in Sleep Token. I later found out that this is called something like singing in cursive and it's also the reason I don't like Eddie Vedder? Anyway.
Youtube served me up the It's a Sin cover, Dance Macabre and Lachryma. And as you know those are all bangers. So I had my "oh shit this is great let's go slow, tentative, try more out".
By the next day I had listened to Square Hammer enough times to memorize it and wasn't showing any signs of stopping. I was still in denial. I literally said to my friends "Well this is going in my liked music of course but I don't see them becoming my favorite artists or anything, the slow songs aren't hitting". I was a FOOL who didn't realize that Ghost songs are for the most part growers not showers.
Here I am four months later with a small adopted family of cursed potato effigies, a feral crush, and a lovely suite of new friends here on tumblr. Never been happier to be wrong. "Won't be my favorites". PEH. I was wrong about that within three days. The obsession burned fast once I let it catch fire
