On a Easter morning of April 9th 1917, all four Canadian divisions would start the battle of Vimy Ridge. A ridge which the Britain and France had failed to take years prior to 1917. Despite fierce batting that lasted for 3 days, it ended in Canadian victory! A victory that said to be the moment Canada was seen as a nation. Such a battle came at a heavy cost, around 10,600 Canadians casualties occurred with 3,598 dead. Regardless of who was on who side, their lives and cost of it all should never be forgotten.
Went for a stain glass look this year, I’m unsure if I prefer the more vibrant colours or the dull colours. Regardless I’m happy with the results.
The Battle of Vimy Ridge was part of the Battle of Arras, in the Pas-de-Calais department of France, during the First World War. The main combatants were the four divisions of the Canadian Corps in the First Army, against three divisions of the German 6th Army. The battle occurred from 9 to 12 April 1917, marking the commencement of the Battle of Arras and serving as the inaugural assault of the Nivelle Offensive. The objective was to draw German reserves away from the French forces, preparing for a crucial offensive along the Aisne and the Chemin des Dames ridge several days later

The Canadian National Vimy Memorial honours all Canadians who served during the First World War. The Memorial bears the names of those who died in France with no known grave. It is located at the site of Canada’s victory during the Battle of Vimy Ridge.

The human was called Harry D. Colebourn (April 12, 1887 - September 24, 1947) and he was a Canadian veterinarian, and he also served with the Royal Canadian Army Veterinarian Corps during World War One.
On the 24th August 1914, Harry rescued a small black female bear from a hunter who had killed her mother. Shortly after this, Harry named his little cub after the city of Winnipeg, where he lived.
There are "friendship" statues of Harry Colebourn and his famous bear in Winnipeg's Assiniboine Park Zoo and at the London Zoo. A 2004 film about Harry and his bear also starred Michael Fassbender, David Suchet and Stephen Fry.
