VOLUME SIX: WALK AND TALK

Tokyo Babylon Part 1

Complete with my old employer Videolog's logo, applied in the old fashioned way - a piece of card placed over the vhs sleeve in the scanner.

Booker: Mac. You're shit at this.

They stand side by side in a designer's dream kitchen, lovingly crafted by the man currently struggling to mix dough.

Mac: Yeah well, I'd pay to watch you install a catalytic converter into a mech that should have been discontinued long before they were even in existence. Beth-Anne owes me a favor for that fucking thing.

Booker leans closer, settling a hand on Mac's hip and notching his chin on the man's shoulder.

Booker: You're doing great, baby.

Mac's ears go scarlet, and he huffs irritably. It only serves to make Booker smirk as he reaches over, placing his hand over Mac's where it holds the spoon.

Booker: Like this. Press it against the side of the bowl, smear it slightly so it blends, scrape and do it again.

Mac: Why the hell are we doing it analog? Didn't you buy all this fancy shit for a reason?

A series of static disruptions mark the beginning of the recorded message. Soon enough the image cleared, giving full view to the slight figure of Tweaks Shadowspanner. His dark, normally neatly styled hair was messy and disheveled, spatters of gore visible throughout the dark mass. His black and red goggles bounced against his chest as he shuffled around, face pressed close to the camera.

“Well, I guess this is entry number one. Frankly, I’m not sure why I’ve decided to do this, a legacy perhaps, maybe it’s just to have some sound when I can’t sleep, but that doesn’t matter.”

The Gnome scratched idly at his beard, the gore that was on his hands spreading unevenly through the facial hair.

“I’ve received a lot of backlash from recent employers, complaints about not getting enough answers, or not receiving the information they wanted. It’s too bad, really, the people who died seemed to be rather respectable. I’d prefer to kill the ones paying me to kill them, but alas, that’s bad business.”

He quietly removed his gauntlets, silence filling the void in the video as he stared blankly forward, thoughts racing.

“Maybe it’s time to make a change. I’ll see if I can find an employer who wants to make better use of what I can do, but I’m not so sure that’s a possibility. I suppose we’ll see.”

A short bark of unconvinced laughter exited his throat. 

“Ah, oh well. I’ll see how often I continue these, but we’ll see. Until then, Shadowspanner, signing off.” 

The screen went to static once more as the Gnome reached forward and slapped a button, staying that way for several seconds before flicking to black.
