#vesper starbound

GRRR I LOVE ANGSTY VESPER WHERE SHES REALIZING WHAT SHES DOING WRONG.

"I don't need you to be sorry right now, I need you to be strong." Mi-Go said these words to Vesper near the end of the lore... and they struck me. We all know that Mi-go is a... not-great character on the moral side, and that she's a bit selfish. But she does care for others, especially Tad and Vesper, though she may not like to admit that on the Vesper side.

Vesper's act of trying to cure Mi-go was from a good place too, even if it went wildly wrong, and therefore, her apologies are sincere. But Mi-go doesn't need apologies. Apologies don't keep people safe. Apologies wouldn't have stopped Go-Mi from trying to kill Tad and Ves.

And in situations like these, there is no time for apologies. The way Mi-go phrases her words, "I need", is important- she's still speaking in her normal self-centered sense... but there's a lot more going on there. She almost killed the two, one of which she is dating. She needs Vesper to be strong, but really, Tad needs that more. Not that Tad is weak, clearly... but Tad would likely hesitate a bit too much if Go-Mi needed to be dealt with. But Vesper fought back. So maybe in a sense for re-paying the breaking of the deal, or maybe for purely being the one who can cope with having to attack Go-Mi, Vesper is the one who has to be strong.

rubs hands together. okay here we go. not counting the actual dnd characters for obvious reasons BUT:

ari: lawful good aasimar cleric (knowledge) -- probably the most selfless character i've made so far, so if there's anyone here who deserves to get the good alignment, it's her. she's literally the daughter of one of the goddesses of the aether in canon, too, so she's basically as close to an aasimar as you can get. she'd be a cleric of soraza (where the knowledge subclass comes from)!

sylph: chaotic neutral halfling monk (way of the drunken master) -- now at first i was looking at fighter, but given that a large part of sylph's character is the boosted magic they have, monk felt a little more fitting. way of the drunken master is a way to get that monk aspect without losing sylph's more loose/fun style, and as for the other aspects, halfling is due to Short, and chaotic neutral is because i literally think there's no better word to describe sylph than chaotic. the neutral comes from them not really giving a shit whether they're following the law or not.

vesper: neutral evil tiefling rogue (arcane trickster) -- she has to be a tiefling. she has to be. neutral evil due to her selfishness in being willing to give up everyone for her own wants, but not being all that stoked about it. she's also gotta be a rogue, and the arcane trickster aspect is for her funky teleportation abilities!

owen: chaotic evil human warlock (the undead) -- this one is gonna feel wrong because we didn't get to see all of owen's storyline, but trust me. it fits. i won't go further into it just so you can sit and wonder where the hell he was heading.
