Digital Orwellian State of China-using VR to monitor cadresâ party loyalty
A tiny town in Shengdon uses VR to assess the âmental healthâ of cadres using V/R to check their âparty charactersâ, i.e. their loyalty to the Communist Party. This is part of a series of âparty charactersâ examination conducted in the âparty loyalty health examination clinicsâ.Â
The townâs local government invested in 700k RMB in VR as part of âannual healthâ checks imposing on local cadres to test their loyalty to the Party by answering pre-set questions and watching a video of propaganda from the party apparatus.
Earlier than that, a Party Working committee in the Western Beijing city launched âscience fictionâ educational experience by using VR to launch party loyalty propaganda.
If it sounds weird, there is nothing new, during the Soviet Russia period, the communist parties in the communist bloc always used all sorts of excuse to grab people and put them into mental sanitariums if they were not âloyalâ enough. What China is doing is just putting the high tech elements on this same old state terror.
This gives people another glimpse of what a digital Orwellian state means.
