SERIOUSLY. And I am, I must admit, having an absolutely fine time in lockdown compared with uh, a lot of people. My spouse telecommutes. We’d already gotten used to living on one income. The mortgage is gettin’ paid and the cars are paid off. My backyard is an engaging oasis of critter life. My cats enjoy our company. We can pay the $$$ for premium groceries and weekly deliveries of booze from our favorite local places. I know how to bake and cook and have been cookin’ up a storm. My spouse has lost weight (that they wanted to lose) because their food intake is more healthful and disciplined now than it was before. We’ve been cautious about raiding the alcohol cupboard. I got my anxiety meds mailed to my house so I have another month’s supply. I’ve been doing my astronomy stuff and citizen science stuff in a social-distanced way. As a certified Introvert, I don’t really miss being out with people the way my more gregarious spouse does.

All our friends who’ve gotten sick thus far are recovering (some more slowly than others, but they’re on the mend) and I have a g-damn job interview tomorrow. No one in our immediate circle has died yet despite our area being a seething hotspot of viral horror.

Things are fine on my little island! And you know what? THIS STILL SUCKS BECAUSE THERE’S A WHOLE WIDE WORLD OUT THERE BESIDES ME, MY SPOUSE, MY HOUSE AND MY CRITTERS AND IT’S BAD, YO. REALLY BAD. 

So yeah, everyone can take the cozy soft-apocalypse cottagecore fuzzies and shove ‘em. We’re living it now and it sucks.

Yeah, it seems the volume of McElr*y related-stuff has gone up lately? I don’t even know if they’re YouTubers or Twitch streamers or what (nobody @ me, I DON’T CARE). I gather that they, or at least one of them, are real good eggs on social-justice kinda stuff, but they’re like the tumblrverse equivalent of John Oliver and Rachel Maddow, where you're on the same basic side of the fence as they are politically or what have you but god DAMN you’re sick of your friends asking you “Oh, did you see what Rachel Maddow said about such-and-such?!?” when the only reason you have a TV is to play DVDs and video games.
