i love helping out people who are very new to riding when im at the barn, but then they’re the one airpod in so loud I can hear the music playing, says “what😐” every time i try to explain something, yells unnecessarily loud to talk in the arena, and doesn’t take advice or follow direction from anyone else starter pack✌️
How long have you been an equestrian?
Hey, thanks for the ask!
I am the stereotypical horsegirl. Been riding since I was five. Showing since I was seven. Folks bought me my own horse at ten. (I was an military brat so keeping a horse was impractical before then.) We lived about a 20 minute walk from the stables so until I went off to college, that was pretty much where you would find me. Even in college I rode at a facility linked to my university. Big hiatus in my mid-to-late 20s due to adulting shit. But in my early 30s, I got back into riding through the Society for Creative Anachronism. Bought a QH gelding and the rest is - ahem - history.
That's my kiddo in my profile pic, riding Big Mac, a 17 hh Dutch Warmblood he used to do show jumping on. Sadly we had to put Mac down due to an injury and my son hasn't had the heart for that particular sport since. Nowadays we mostly do gymkhana and ranch riding.
Probably a longer answer than you were looking for but you get it anyway. ;-)
Cheers!
Staying the Course: Book 3 by Jenny Roman
Author Jenny Roman has recently released the final book in her trilogy, mapping the latest chapter in the lives of Livy and Simon. It is a rollercoaster ride that threatens to upend everything they have ever worked for.
Staying The Course may be the darkest installment yet. The couple's long-distance love is tested to the limit through strained reunions, ill health, and lingering mysteries and not forgetting the horses! Our favourite author has packed so much into this finale, rounding things off, tying up loose ends, and even adding some English cussing to match the characters' frustrations.
Looking back at where Livy and Simon started, it’s been one heck of a journey. Jenny Roman has taken us on a real emotional rollercoaster, showing that love isn’t always easy, especially when life, distance, and health issues keep throwing a spanner in the works.
What I’ve loved most about their story is how relatable it feels; it’s not a polished fairy tale, but a messy, honest look at two people trying to hold onto each other through it all. From the quiet moments with the horses to the high-stress drama of their careers, you really feel every bump in the road with them. It’s been so rewarding to see them grow and tackle those "loose ends" together, proving that even when things get dark, they have the grit to stay the course. It’s a brilliant end to a trilogy that really pulls at the heartstrings.
being an equestrian in New England is weird bc tf you mean you’re getting heatstroke one day and frostbite the next

Like the Wind (on Wattpad) https://www.wattpad.com/story/405043486-like-the-wind?utm_source=web&utm_medium=tumblr&utm_content=share_myworks&wp_uname=PeculiarBeetle Horses are hard work. They're both physically and mentally taxing. Especially when you're aiming for the big leagues. Jamison has worked hard--since he was seven-- to "compete with the big boys" of the professional rodeo circuit. His best friend, Dallas, has been his ride or die in this endeavor. Undeterred and motivated by their differences and friendship, Dallas and Jamison strive to make a name for themselves in the rodeo circuit. That is until the rodeo that they believed would catapult them to a station from where they can truly step into the world of Pro Rodeo ends in tragedy. Getting back into the saddle is much harder when you no longer recognise yourself. And starting over from the beginning is horribly disheartening. Talking about athletes at work and how hockey players are fragile af. Then we start talking about that time we watched Phillip Dutton get launched face first from his horse and then instantly get up to check his horse before refusing medical attention because he had two other horses to compete.
