The jungle is no longer a place but an atmosphere inside thought. It shifts, pulses, folds.
The two researchers wander through it as though through the circuitry of their own doubt.
Flesh exists only intermittently: one moment sweat and heat, the next pure vibration, a pulse of intent searching for form. Above them, the tower begins to appear and disappear — not built but condensing, like metal choosing to become itself.
It hums in frequencies that taste of ozone and nostalgia. Its surface reflects nothing. The vines cling not to matter but to remembrance. When they touch it, time thins — each second revealing the fossils of unattempted futures.
The fat one mutters formulas that drift from his mouth as silver insects. The thin one watches them hatch midair into geometric despair. Around them, the jungle laughs: the call of unseen animals, or maybe just language falling back into instinct. The ground undulates, breathes, rearranges itself to conceal what has always been true.
They remove their remaining garments and become porous. Stormlight seeps through skin like scripture returning to its source. All opposites — heat and sound, weight and word, hunger and hypothesis — collapse into a single bright pulse.
Lightning cascades through the tower, down their bodies, through the soil, into the buried circuits of origin. For an instant, they understand that the experiment was never theirs: it is the planet reawakening to the memory of invention.
And then everything goes luminous — the trees, the air, their own astonishment — fusing into the long hum of a conclusion beyond observation.
