ik some ppl are disappointed by the lack of veilfall, and while I don't share those feelings I do understand them, but I also 100% think we got the best of both worlds with veilguard
we get to keep so much that's familiar (veilfall, whatever else it might've done, would certainly have disrupted all familiar... well, everything in thedas)
but we also, imo, get to see what veilfall would LOOK like in arlathan! and there's no indication afaik that the situation in arlathan changes! there are places where the veil is thinner, and in arlathan it has been historically thin, thinner by veilguard, and then further thinned by the actions of veilguard
so... if spirits want to join the world, arlathan would be the place to do it. in which case, they would be first encountered by the veil jumpers
they'd ofc stand against aggressive spirits/demons(/"demons") but otherwise, I think they'd be well equipped to help them enter the world with a minimum of harm
esp post veilguard! bc atp the veil jumpers have a connection to the mourn watch!
so, really, I think pro-veilfall ppl still get it, in a way. the veil isn't gone but it's gossamer thin in arlathan, which is also a safe point of entry for other reasons

New chapter of Veilfall!
Summary:
9:45 Dragon A year has passed. The Dread Wolf's plan has been set into motion. The Inquisition is no more, but from its shadows the Third Hand emerges to seek him out and prevent the Veil's destruction. Led by Inquisitor Lavellan, Lace Harding enlists new agents to join the Third Hand. Amongst them is "Rook", an ex-slave of Tevinter and member of the Tenebris. A bold-faced liar and disobedient wildcard, Rook seems an unlikely candidate, but as fate would have it, he's exactly the kind of person the world needs. Whilst Solas remains elusive, the threat of war looms in the North as tensions worsen between Tevinter and the Qunari. The first sparks of rebellion spread through Tevinter. The Wardens: divided. The fate of the world hangs in the Balance. Terrible things stir from their slumbers. When the world bleeds, they will surely awaken.

Glancing down at the table, Rook noticed a slight change made to the map since his last visit. The Silverite dagger had moved further up, planted in an island away from the Marches. Surrounded by many sea monsters and an impressive fleet of ships lay the dagger's glittering resting spot: Llomerryn, jewel of the Eastern Seas. As far as Rook knew, it was a lawless haven. A short stopover for smugglers to trade some Incaensori to make space for unfortunate living stock. Otherwise, a debaucherous feast-day destination for Altus looking to sate their appetites or find yet another rare bauble to flaunt back home.
"Good. That's about everyone," Harding began, rising from her seat. "Settle down, this is important."
All fell silent, except for Magpie, who asked, "What's this about, Nightingale? Good news, I hope?"
"That depends. There's been a change of plans. Our next stop will be Llomerryn."
Immediately, Dagna jumped forth from her seat, "Llomerryn? Don't they sell just about everything there?"
"Everything your heart could desire," Captain Isabela said. Then cautiously, noting the Arcanist's growing smile, "Erhem— Within reason."
"Can we stop by at their markets? I could use some rare materials..."
Harding cleared her throat, "We can arrange for that, however we aren't stopping for a shopping trip."
"Not even for a pleasure pilgrimage?" Magpie quipped, much to the ire of some of his companions.
"No," Harding answered. "Our role is of great importance. I will not tolerate any distractions that puts our mission into jeopardy. Understood?"
"Yes, ma'am," Magpie's head was bowed, hand on heart, but Rook could see the faintest trace of a smile.
"As for what this mission entails, our task is to procure a magical artifact. We have a few days to retrieve it before anyone else does."
"You mean, we're stealing it?" Ashkatari tensed.
"Is stealing so bad if it's for the greater good?" Magpie chimed, to which the Qunari grumbled.
"Finally. Some action," Ptarmigan yawned, "I thought I'd go mad in this sea. All this time since the last raid and I've still yet to fight a single sea monster."
“Oh, you never know. They are rare these days but you might see one,” Saabraks chuckled.

Into the training deck he went. The sounds of impact on wood echoed through the room. Strong scents of blood, sweat and sea made his nose twitch. At the center of the room, there was a tall woman; a tower of glistening muscle and a head of flames. With slow, practised movements, she trained her great wooden club upon the training dummy. Struck it. Her wooden foe merely shuddered.
All of a sudden, her demeanour turned. Bare arms tensed, muscles twitching. The next swing came fast. Ferocious. But with shuddering breath she stopped short of her mark. The wooden dummy rocked back from its fastenings. The human took a breath and rubbed the sweat from her brow, stepped back from the dummy; there, Rook saw a large, splintering crack across its body.
Rook recognised the woman right away. He remembered how quickly she moved days ago. How she rammed into waves of men and sent them flying with her maul. The fierce look in her eye briefly caught in the blur.
She turned — the viciousness in her eyes, snuffed out in seconds. Regarding Rook with a slight smile, she rested the club on her shoulder.
please do not add hate to this post, bring up the art book, or bring up the books/comics. thank you!
thinking about this in the abstract and listing generalized outcomes, beginning with the worst case scenario and moving (roughly/imprecisely bc u can't better/worse some of these) towards the best
the physical world and the fade ("the worlds") and their occupants are all destroyed
the physical world + occupants are destroyed and the fade + occupants are damaged
the fade + occupants are destroyed and the physical world + occupants are damaged
the worlds survive, but with damage to their nature + occupants
the worlds survive, but create physical, magical, and sociopolitical destabilization
the worlds survive, but create sociopolitical destabilization
there are wayyy more than six potential outcomes, but I am trying to generalize. and they can combine: for instance, an outcome where both worlds and occupants survive but are damaged could also have physical, magical, and sociopolitical destabilization. it could also have a portion of the population having been killed by the change, in either or both worlds. lots of nuanced views
personally, I suspect the outcome would've been around 5

“What else do you know of me?”
“Besides your name and that you work for the Tenebris, nothing else. And if I’m not mistaken, you’d prefer to keep things that way, right?”
“I’d rather no one knew anything about me.”
“With your skills, you could have disappeared altogether and escaped South. Yet, you remained in Tevinter and kept putting yourself at risk of capture.”
“What would you have me do? I couldn’t live with myself knowing that others were still suffering in slavery.”

The Archon - The Imperial Conclave is interrupted by an assassination attempt and a slave rebellion all at once. Amidst the casualties is Archon Radonis, previously an ally to the Inquisition and someone who has been staunchly against the Venatori. A successor must be chosen - it is in the Veilguard’s best interest to involve themselves in the succession process.
Dorian Pavus - Previously, a valuable ally to the Inquisition. He still remains friends with Lavellan and is willing to help him. Dorian is a Magister, and previously a representative of Maevaris’ Lucerni until she was framed for treason and stripped of her position. Whilst Maevaris went underground and reformed the Lucerni into the Shadow Dragons, Dorian remained in the Magisterium. Dorian proposes radical reform: an end to slavery, corruption and all notions of Tevinter superiority. Better alliances with the South and a chance to redeem Tevinter for the better. As for the Qunari, Dorian is willing to offer peace talks but he’s also prepared to fight back with support from the South.
Radonis’ nephew - a devout of the Imperial Chantry. He shares some of his late uncle's policies. He promises an end to corruption and an end to the Venatori, however, he has a staunch pro slavery stance and wants to dissolve the Magisterium. He also proposes a restoration of the Templar order as he associates the evils of Tevinter society from unrestrained mages. He also wants an alliance with the South, provided that they help against the Qunari.
A Venatori-sympathetic Magister - he has many allies in the Magisterium. His policies are popular with most in the Magisterium and the Altus: A harsher stance against the Qunari and a proposal to take back the lands that Tevinter once ruled over. He does not want to make allies of the South, making him more or less an obstacle to the Veilguard/Inquisition.
Calpernia - One of Rook’s companions, she can remain Venatori or reject it depending on Rook’s choices. Calpernia wants to restore Tevinter to its past glory and has a harsh anti-Qunari stance. Calpernia has similar stances to the pro-Venatori candidate, however she desires an end to slavery. Because of her humble origins, she can become immensely popular with the lower classes of Tevinter society. She is willing to offer an alliance with the South but requests their support against the Qunari.
