I’m getting an allotment!!!
So finally, after an 18-month wait, I have been assigned an allotment and I still can’t believe it! I had practically given up on the idea of getting one in my local area before moving to a new place, and when I had contacted the two associations managing plots in my neighbourhood I was told I was 30th down the line by the first, and to be ready for a decade-long wait by the second. But somehow it has happened! And even more importantly, the allotments are literally across the road from my door, we are talking less than 50 steps! I will soon be able to go from picking veg to cooking it in the space of 5 minutes, and I think it’s incredible after so long. In the next few days I will go for a meeting with the secretary to view it and to be granted access, so you’ll get to see it as soon as I do. I have no idea in what state it might be, or the actual size, but regardless, I am beyond excited to finally be able to grow edible and practical plants here in Scotland. I’m constantly complaining about the quality and variety of veg and fruit commonly available in supermarkets here (well, I’m Italian, what do you expect?! and I don’t have much of a chance to visit farmer’s markets often enough), so it will be great to experiment with things I would otherwise find hard to get a hold of. And I obviously can’t wait to share photos and write about all I will do! :D
Making Veddw 8: the next version of the Veg Plot: no veg!
I think the worst thing was working in the garden until 9 o’clock or later. And then realising that if we wanted supper we would now have to pick, de-slug, wash and cook veggies. Almost as bad as trying to grow them. I think Charles got really tired and fed up, trying to keep it all looking good. So what to do with Veg Plot? Anne needed more inspiration. It needed to be something that looked good…
welcome to my bi-daily diary
Just had yet another cyber crash, managed to write my dairy then leant over laptop and jumper did something and diary disappeared! Aghhhhhhh! So where was I yes I remember, I decided that it is officially summer and moved into my shed, or 'garden office' when I'm showing off, then I edited a script and attempted to upload the application and script to the funding peeps, normally that should have taken me two hours max, but since when have I had a normal life? it actually took me eight hours, of being thwarted at every turn by the amazing new advances on the interweb, why is it that nothing works properly?Interweb rule number one if you can find a more complex and tortous way of doing something go for it! Finally I get to do the veg patch at four pm, so I weeded and re mulched the fruit bushes, trimming the bushes as I went its all neat and tidy down there. Stop that you smutty lot, veg patch bottom of garden. Duh! I haven't had a Brazilian, look it up on google. So went and sat on the decking and was admiring my handiwork marvelling at the sun shine universe..... pulling clumps of hair out of the big dog.... When I noticed it, the french windows are falling apart, when did that happen? Another job to add to the never ending list of things going fubar around the house, paving on drive and patio, need a new garage door, lights in bathroom, replace two bay windows, repaint lousy paint job....... All things I need to get done when I earn some real money, when I get a job. Any builders out there want a girlfriend? No? oh well back to the drawing board. Tonight I have a choice of things to do I can go to the cinema and watch 'Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' or I can tackle Mount Everest of an ironing pile, decisions decisions, enjoy a film or extreme ironing, hmmmmm....? Work is the crab grass in the lawn of life. C.
