It's 7am when we sit down in the 80ies-diner-style interior of the ferry boat. I get cosy with my honey bread and hot cup of tea, not that there is a great deal to see from the Patagonian fjords anyway. - The moment I untie my shoes, another traveler comes over, starting the conversation with "you look like you're traveling for a longer time". Discretely removing the remaining toothpaste stains, I'm wondering how he came to that conclusion. - If I have a sewing kit so he can fix his socks, he would like to know. I nod, swallow the bite of my bread roll and make myself out to my van. Back up on deck, I hand him my emergency kit and he admits that he doesn't have a clue on how to fix them. - Thinking back now, I'm not sure how and why the following things happened as they did. But there I am, sitting with his warm sock between my fingers, carefully closing the hole while he tells me half barefooted his motorcycle tales. - Happy about the result, I hand him back his sock, convinced that my mission has been accomplished. But hold on, socks always come in pairs, don't they? - And that's just the beginning of an eye-opening seven hour ferry trip.
