01. My name was almost Lily Frances. Both my great grandmothers on my dad’s side were named Frances and both my great grandmothers on my mom’s side were named Lily. I plan to use Lily for one of my kids in the future, but mostly because of Harry Potter. There’s a good chance that a few of my kids may also have some horror movie influenced names too. But who knows?

02. I have four tattoos. I have always on my right foot, the Harry Potter book page stars, a black and purple arrow on the side of my left forearm, and a book on the back of my right forearm. I’m creating a little collection. They all mean something different to me. 

03. I read Wuthering Heights when I was fourteen and fell in love with British gothic romantic literature. I have a problem. A huge problem, and it is that genre and time period. 

04. I had a piece of my work be rejected for my alma mater’s literature anthology on the basis of being “too edgy.” One of my milder pieces was accepted. 

05. I have a large collection of horror movies. That’s how I bond with my mom too. We both love horror movies so a lot of our movie nights consist of scary and creepy things. The last movie we watched together was The Conjuring 2, and we both loved it. Some of my favorites include A Nightmare on Elm Street (the original, not the God awful remake), Evil Dead (both the original and remake because they are both so different and so good in many ways), The Conjuring, Let the Right One In,    bMama, The Babadook, Ginger Snaps (14 year old me watched this a million times), The Hamiltons, From Dusk Till Dawn, Oculus, Absentia, Jennifer’s Body, You’re Next, The Hills Have Eyes, and so many more that I could literally sit here all night listing. I watch so many. I recently watch Re-Animator for the first time and really enjoyed it. 

06. I have lizard and he’s a crested gecko aptly named Richie Gecko. My dog Homer is named for the great Greek poet and not Homer Simpson like some people like to insinuate. 

07. I love musical theatre and have done several musical revues. Some of my favorite roles from them have been Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors, Velma Kelly from Chicago, Ilse from Spring Awakening, Janet from Rocky Horror, and Annie Knowby from Evil Dead: The Musical. 

08. Lately I have been reading a lot of poetry, specifically Anne Carson’s stuff. I’m also really into Sappho and Richard Siken’s works too. In addition to that I have a boat load of Stephen King and Neil Gaiman in my to be read pile. I’ve also made it a priority to read more different and diverse authors. I recently ordered a copy of Como Agua Para Chocolate to help kick off my diverse reading mission because I love the movie adaptation. Plus magical realism is a wonderful and rich genre. If anyone has any suggestions I am all ears. I’d love some good feminist/diverse horror recs. 

09. I very much and unapologetically love the movies Practical Magic, Ever After, and Fried Green Tomatoes. They were staples for me as a kid. My favorite cartoons, however, were The Land Before Time and Balto. Jurassic Park was another huge childhood favorite, and I love how even after all this time it still holds up. Like you just cannot beat the effects that movie has.
