okay, wound up doing mostly revision work but honestly that's been helpful. almost caught up to where I left off, so hopefully once I reach there, I can then progress forward. it still feels like it's lacking something in dread or horror, but not as badly, nor does it feel as...disconnected or 'telling not showing' as I had been struggling with.

you know what? I am actually really pleased with my progress from today. was it as much as I wanted? no. but it was more than I thought I'd get done at various points throughout the day. and it's not all amazing, but it's solid, it's there, and I finally reached a point I desperately needed to reach. now I think I can move along faster. I also think I managed to make it a bit more horror. I might actually be able to finish this in time.

while i hope the AI boom dies out i also hope we start acknowledging data center water overconsumption as it's own unique issue because like. it's not AI itself that harms the environment it's the hardware hosting it, right? same reason nfts and cryptocurrency were also bad for the environment. the root problem isn't going away so long as we allow big companies to continue hitching their wagon to the next big tech trend. i worry if they don't get stronger regulation we'll just be repeating the same issue whenever the next toy comes along.

i don't really want to weight in on the "using big words in your writing is ableist" discourse happening on tiktok because i'm like 90% certain it's an anti-intellectual psyop to stir up drama in online circles to promote the use of ai to summarize literally everything and thus feeding the LLMs and lowering the populace's mistrust of such tools but i also have to say: dictionaries and thesauruses are the most accessible they've ever been. if you use an e-reader of any kind you can look up a word without leaving the page. there's a plethora of online dictionaries and if you just type a word + "meaning" into google it'll usually give you a definition. we used to have pocket dictionaries we used when reading in class. i have two on my shelf right now that i used in high school. stop letting the fascists purposefully misuse anti-ableism rhetoric to trick you into never thinking again.
